Finally was able to go drop off my friends Yamaha 150 , I took off on Nov 26 at 11am for Irvine hit Otay around 1pm exported the motor and by 2:30pm was on my way . I drove to San Quentin and spent the night there the next morning was on my way at 5am stop at El Rosario to pump gas and get breakfast. The road is pretty nice pot holes in the usual place Cantavina to Punta prerita. I got to Santa Rosalia around noon Thanks giving day. Drop off the Motor and was on my way to San Marcos Island where I would be staying at for 2 days. I get there grab my bass rod head over the pier and start fishing I’m fishing 10lb test and using a lucky craft lure . The sad part is I lost it on my fifth cast to a 50lb rooster fish. Called it quits after that I was out gunned for sure. Danny made a few calls to see where the bait was being caught. The next day we were up at 4am and on way to Santa Rosalia Marine to make bait which were like an hour boat ride. It took us like 30min to make about 45 macks and big eye scads. We also fished a spot I have never fished before but you could not miss it due to about 20 pangs fishing the same spot. The yellowtails were deep and busting you off on 40lb and 50 lb tests I went 80lb dropper loop end the day with 14 nice size fish and lost about 20 fish. I lost one fish that straighten my hook out on 80lb. I had a blast for just being able to fish one day. Glad I’m going back on Dec 23 till Jan 2 2015.Hope you like the pictures . they even asked if we wanted to tie off the back of there panga as they were Anchored. Next time down there I will be trying to fish as they do hand line. I asked what pound test they used ansewer was 120lb test . Its funny how they work with each other and no yelling if there lines get tanggled .

Quality yellows right there! The north end of Isla San Marcos is one of the best spots I have ever fished. We hand lined big humboldt squid one night out there for fun. My boat stunk for a week. Those things pulled hard I can't imagine hand lining a 40# yellowtail like the pangueros do. Thanks for the report makes me want to load up and head down!

Very nice report!!! I guess the spot would be hard to miss Haha. Those yellow are brutes. The hand liners just look at them as another day at the office!

Very nice!! When I first fished there, using 40lb , in 75' of water and loosing 5 of those pigs , one right after the other..... Crank down that drag, and get their head turned fast or you're gonna get rocked every time.

    Thanks for sharing.
