I have been fishing from Half Moon Bay and San Francisco Bay for many years for salmon. It looks like Salmon is opening April 7th south of Pigeon Point, and HMB some time significantly later. I have a few friends that would like to go out from Santa Cruz on a party boat. Most likely we would be looking for a smaller boat, maybe a six pack, but I might be able to rustle up enough people to charter a party boat. I am totally unfamiliar with the boat and crew options out of Santa Cruz. Can anyone recommend either a 6 pack or party boat that is fishy?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Joe Stoops on Chartle Charters is who i fish with. We seem to catch a lot of fish, even on the 'slow days'. He is willing to try different rigs and techniques to make it happen.

    Tom great bet,
Any six pack boat that trolls that will find something, not many though. I think any big party boat is just a boat ride, all they do is mooch. Check their opening day catches for the last few years. 1-2 per boat. Mooching has sucked the last 10 years at least.
    Good luck.

Thank you all for the recommendations. Now to herd the cattle (my fishing buddies) and get a trip on the books. I'm hoping to get a late April and a late May trip scheduled....Then keep my fingers crossed that the season opens in June in the HMB/SF Bay area.

I think you mean sequel creek....the steelhead still run, but I doubt any Chinook use it, probably a few coho too. It's a difficult creek to fish.

Ya... stayed up there with my brother and hung out with the local rats at the monastery and the trestle .... (actually fell off the trestle at night into the creek)
I remember the steelhead piling into the mouth of the creek and get stuck there cause it didn't reach the salt.. it was an awesome sight...

Tom on the Sarabella is a great Capt. When I've fished with him he works for the fish. And his boat is pretty sweet.

book quick, it's gonna be insane down there with north being closed. I also expect the bite to be really good this year down there. Look at the wind patterns, we're back to a normal pattern this year.

Lady Beth seems to slay them every time I've fished around her. Seems to have a good reputation generally as well.

    ^^^^^^
    This
Haven't fished with him personally but he's friends with my fishing buddy and every time we're up there he's got 'em going.
Real nice guy, doesn't mind giving us numbers if we're having a tough time.
