SAN QUINTIN TRAFFIC TRIP

So I left Baja Malibu MEX Monday morning 6am, Before Ensenada Salsispudes area major Detour single lane each way for a long time,South of Ensenada Maneadero Major contruction just pass the military base all the way to Bufadora turn off,I got to it around 7 :00 am south bound or just a bit pass,I got through in about 1/2 hour,rest of the way OK.I left San Quintin today at 6 am got to Maneadero around 8:30 am took 1 1/2 hours to travel 13 miles.(I can only imagine how long it will take after 12 noon,(A SHIT TON) of time,took the free road back to avoid the night mare on the toll road,free road was fast and cool.(Plan carefully )or you will regret it.OH yeah and all the ass holes that decide to try to get around on the dirt and then they just want to cut in, full on shit heads .Bring something to pee in ,because if you pull off the road they will do there best to not let you back in.And if you have girls figure it out ahead of time .Happy trails

Is this a "one way traffic" situation where the south bound traffic is stopped to allow the north bound traffic to flow then vice versa?

Sorta like the road construction south of Santo Tomas a few years ago?

Both toll road and Maneadero are single lane each way.The Maneadero section has 4 or 5 intersections mile or so apart with traffic guards allowing cross traffic semi trucks agriculture busses daily commerce operations etc. You creep 2-3 miles mph with constant stops,unless you get there very early beat the crowd.And you get the dumb assses trying to drive in dirt sections and then running out of space and wanting to get back in line.By the time you get to ensenada driving north 9am or later normaly you have already made it to the border.

There is a dirt by-pass road running parallel to Mex 1 to the west. If traveling north, take the turn off to Pta. Banda. By-pass is signed at a four way stop
and pops out to Mex 1 at the ice house where the nausea begins.
South bound, look for alternate route signage at the Estero Beach Hotel turn.
Its bumpy in spots but they are scraping it at times.

South bound: Three lanes down to one.
North bound: Two lanes down to one.

yep the traffic going South after Ensenada , sucks ,
but when headed home , and got there earlier it was not to bad ,
that was A month ago .

This has been going on since even last year I got a place in Punta Banda sometimes I go there on the way back (stay the night) and then head North early morning.Regarding alternate detours they all go back to the MEX 1.You can make this trip an easy crossing but ya gotta be early Morning,take the Free Road North to Rosarito, when leaving Ensenada and South when going to Ensenada....Last week I hit it South bound (toll road) around 6 am Still a bit bad but was moving.Yesterday free road North bound around 10 am very smooth and easy.

Just to make sure I didn't confuse anyone there are two construction sites north of Ensenada Toll Road,South of Ensenada Mex 1.

We went to SQ last month. Fortunately traffic wasn’t bad and we got through the mess without too much delay. Unfortunately it appears that our regular stop for tamales is no longer.

Bring squid for reds and get live bait for lings. There were no signs of yellows as the water was still cold.

I am looking for this but cant find the road you speak of on google maps. I know if you turn to go to Estero, can really go south from there. I have to go this way for the Baja 500 I'm looking for workarounds

The goggle earth shot is old. It shows where the main turns are but not the whole graded road from the PTA. Banda turn to Mex 1 at the ice house. I’ll be on it again this Sunday and will get some landmark pics and maybe turn coordinates. But this will get you close.

OK I googled map that looks like it will work,the reason why the road that dumps out to Mex 1 there is a traffic cop so you can get in.South bound coming down the hill from ensenada there is a chevron station mile or less (big one brand new) ,make a right, there will be a traffic cop ,the road is Madero head west until you hit Revolucion Mexicana less then a 1/2 mile that will dump you out on the punta banda road, look at satellite map.next time a roll down there will check it out.

The north bound by-pass road goes under the new bridge they are building at the ice house hill. Then it just flows into Mex 1 just before construction ends and three lanes open up.
Heading south, I saw alternate route signs at the Estero Beach turn but wasn’t able to try from the lane I was in.
Best use apple harbors route heading south.
