Headed down to San Quintin on 7/14 from San Diego. Easy drive until you hit the end of Ensenada, lots of roadwork and needed to take dirt backroads to get around it. Smooth sailing the rest of the way down.
Fished with K and M on the 23 ft parker with Christian and can say enough about how great their operation is. There was a -2ft lowtide at 6am which made getting the parker in the water pretty difficult after watching a few trucks get stuck launching smaller pangas Kelly sent it and got the boat in the water even with no concrete left on the ramp. Making bait in the bay was difficult but we managed to pick up a couple greenback and spanish macks and shot over to San Martin Island to find the whole fleet on the northside fishing for wsb.
A few pangas got on really good bite on smaller grade WSB on Crocs and hookup baits but by the time we started fishing the bite had dried up. Did hook one on a 3oz croc that spit the hook right at the boat. Cristian caught one of the biggest Calicos I have ever seen but thats all she wrote for the island. We pulled em in and headed for some of the highspots and within 2min of slow trolling we were doubled up with yellows. Pulled the hook on one and got the other in the boat. Fished the rest of the day with a steady pick of nice grade yellows up to about 30 pounds. Most action came on greenbacks on 30 pound floro had to really let them eat the bait to get the hook to stick. Ended the day with 7 yellows and a bonita that flew out of the water to eat a surface iron with a few bottom fish to round it off. Lost quite a few fish to pulled hooks as well throughout the day but none to the rocks. Cristian worked his butt off all day to put us on the fish and and was not scared to fish zones with no other boats in sight.
Stayed at Don Eddies and got to meet the new owner who is renovating all the rooms with new comfortable beds and putting in a hot tub right on the bay. He also had Octavio his chef make us up some delicious yellowtail sashimi and ceviche on the house to enjoy with some beers and margaritas. Cant wait to get back down to Baja!
