Just returned from our Annual San Lucas Cove trip and am happy to report the yellowtail and cabrilla fishing at Tortuga and to a lessor extent ,San Marcos Isle, is wide open. We have been going there for about 25 years and the fishing is some of the best that we have seen. Most fish 19-25 pounds with a few smaller and some bigger. we got a half dozen between 30 and 36 pounds. After no cabrilla last year, we were happy to see the cabrilla biting every afternoon if you were willing to leave the yellows to go fish for them. Most were around 5 pounds with a few monsters to 33 pounds. Bait was easy to make if you got up early, in front of the palms. The best fishing for us was in the afternoon at Tortuga after everyone left to head back to camp. we would hook about 8-10 fish every morning at Tortuga but when the afternoon rolled around, we probably would hook about 15 or more as they would come up and be boiling around the east side of the island taking fly-lined mackeral. Lots of fun!!! The fishing is just turning on so Captain Chris Randalls yellowtail tourny later this month at San Lucas Cove is sure to be a huge success!! Get on down there if you like to catch lots of yellowtail!
