I'm heading down to SJDC in late Sept and again in Late Oct. Doing 3-4 days in a panga, but would also like to get in at least 1 or 2 days of surf fishing. Last Dec (20), I hooked Sierra right outside of my hotel (Hyatt Ziva, Zona Hotelera) on colt snipers. Bait was all over the beach and in the surf so it wasn't too hard. Wondering what beaches are a short Uber ride away with lots of action. I can also just walk north or south along the beach and see if any predators are smashing the bait. Only issue is the surf along the Zona Hotelera in SJDC is sometimes really rough.

I have 2 set ups, one heavier than the other and just need to pick up some tackle. Probably will hit up Jansen's to grab some killers. Does anyone replace their treble hooks with inline hooks when surf fishing? I do it on my trolling X-Rap Magnum Rapala's with VMCs, but not sure if I should do the same with my surf tackle. It's also easier to pack inline hooks when flying down to Mexico. Last, what is everyone doing for leader? My reels are spooled with braid (40lb) and a short topshot (30lb). Is anyone using fluoro or wire? Should I just ditch the mono and tie flouro to the braid to improve my casts?

Sorry, I'm kinda new to this and have more questions than answers at the moment.

SF!

Hey Amigo, I just saw your post. I do quite a bit of surf fishing, mostly over on the pacific side where I live. That whole stretch can have fish. The surf can be a problem if a swell is here. Some nice big Roosters over that way. Most of my lures have the trebles. Some top stuff like Cabo Killer, ballyhoo Jansen's, Roberts - Ranger. I normally fish 50# braid with 50# fluoro top shot. Backpack with your gear and go looking. Any more questions, don't hesitate to ask.

The area of the Jettys at the mouth of the Puerto is worth a look.

From a boat within casting distance of terra firma we got Sierra, roosters, Jack Crevalle and Pompano.
    That was in Dec. Though.

If you see pelicans fish there.

Bring binoculars if you can cover some beach.
