For sure, I'm one of those people you mentioned. I often hook up with friends and we fish many spots in the bay with great results and are never even in the area that is showing as being closed off. Heck, I haven't caught a fish in that zone in years, I stick to the other side of the channel and fish the entire bay. There's tone of water to fish.

The Washington guy ran sportboats in San Diego for 18 years and the other part the link I gave was to THE GOVERMENT CHART the other a google map with a free hand line...............but by all means call the CG and ask them ...........I'm sure you will be reffered to the chart that was linked.

I got my info direct from the horse's mouth while I was on SD bay yesterday.

Your chart shows almost all the current restricted zone and all the security zones. It is missing a little area from the green channel marker to the Naval pier by Shelter Island harbor police docks.

The boys in the patrol boats, to keep it simple, are enforcing the restrictions from Ballast Point to the last pier, straight line through Channel marker, anything west.

The key in this sentence is to KEEP IT SIMPLE .............I made the phone call to CG group SD (619-278-7670) The chart 18773 that was the link is accurate and correct Take a look at the restricted and security zones need to stayed clear off. 100yds from any pier on the beach(which is marked in red.) I know that some of you where bummed about the straight line theory.........I know which spot you THOUGHT had been taken away. If you have a gps and the chart and are asked to move when not in the restricted area might ask why???? CG says you can be there. The updated charts also say you can.............I understand the guy in the gun boat trying to explain to a person with no chart those marks will keep you out of the area but.........it will work for rule of "thumb" . Hope it helps and remember knowledge is power.

Good job sir!!!!!! When I called it was to simply check on what the charts said...........don't have the vested interest anymore but............Amazing what a guy can learn with a phone call.

That is why a guy needs to check into things.................Mostly it does not pay to do "as the dock turns" .............I hope that all you guys down there will call in and bitch...........They are really making so you won't have anywhere to fish.

The guys in the security boats have probably watched all of the dvd's that Blockbuster carries 2 or 3 times and are feeling a little bored lately.Maybe taking taking advantage of their newly aquired authority(rookies, greenhorns, low guy on the totem pole, short guy complex,or whatever).Often times,I get off work at 4a.m. and almost run into them as they're just drifting in the open waters around the barges with no lights on.WTF?:imdumb:
Like I've said in previous posts, some of the security guys are way cool, most are total douche bags.
CG LTC Mike Dolan-619 278 7261/he can answer any questions regarding restrictions in SD bay.
    Cheers.
