Looking to replace the cheap bushing under the spool adjustment cap on my saltist 20...anyone know what size bearing I would need?? I know some people on the forum have done it but no one lists a bearing size...any help would be appreciated....
if you take a look at the bushing you should me able to tell, if not, then a ruler should do the trick.
I got the bearing replacement kit from Smoothdrag. Neither of the 2 bearings will fit that little plastic bushing for the spool tension knob. That bearing is a tad smaller than the 4x11x4, which replaces the spool bearing on the clicker side of the reel!
Try calling Diawa to see if the Saltiga 20/30L bearing will fit...I mic it and the shaft size is about 3mm and the outer diameter is about 10.5mm---don't think they make a 10.5mm bearing.
Orngez, great news! I just got my Saltiga 40 and was getting ready to pop the bearing out to measure it! Now I gotta order the 3 bearings for the Saltiga and the Ctex drags for it!
what's the main reason to change bushing for a bearing? also, if you already didnt would you mind put a tutorial of how-to maybe I can do it myself excuse me but I new in this kind of reel (before saltist owner I was penn 113 and penn 500L guy). tnx and regards from Baja
honestly...all i did was look at Alan Tani's tutorial of how to take apart a saltist 40 and just fiddled around from there...a screw driver, wrench, and a pair of pliers is all it took....makes the reel MUCH smoother...
tnx Justing.. I think I will try it... then mag it BTW. in boca bearing there are 3 different 3x8x4 , which part number is the right one?
depends what you want...i believe the different numbers are for stainless or ceramic bearings...depends how good of a bearing you want....
ok.. last question which one would be better for a saltist 20H and 30th? 20H on the surf and occasional inshore fishing 30TH irons and occasional baitfishing tnx for your help
ok, so i've been fiddling with this xtreme reel + lubricant for the last week. it's amazing stuff. it almost eliminates the need to clean the bearings prior to lubricating them. i still do not know about it's corrosion resistance, but the freespool is so great that it's starting not to matter! alan
Hello Alan, nice to see you here, this lubricant is recommended once new bearings are installed in saltist or can be applied with good results on the actual bushings?
if i were you, i would fill the saltist 20 with 2/3 spool worth of 50# spec and run 15-25# topshots on it for the surf, bay, kelp, or offshore tuna. The 30th i would rig same as the 20 except run 25-30# topshots on it for fishing bait. i wouldnt use it for iron since it holds about 120 yards of 40# and you have to push your rod, reel, line, iron to the max to get a yt in. My friend uses a 30Th with 40# for iron and says it works great but personally i dont like it. i use my 30TH strictly for 30# bait and rockfishing
actually my 30TH has 40# braid JB and topshot 40# blue Pline and works great my 20H I will use it with 200yd 20# braid backing and 20#mono top leader, I think 20#braid is too thin but what I really want is just a little more line capacity , basically I will be always fishing mono
ceramic hybrid bearings are ideal for salt water environments. ceramic is impervious to most elements and it will not rust or corrode. we also typically recommend an ABEC #5 or 7 for fishing reel bearings. there still seems to be some debate over which size is the right one, but if it is the 3x8x4 mm then this is the one i would suggest: http://www.bocabearings.com/main1.aspx?p=product&id=7301&n=SMR693C-YZZ_#5_NB2 we will also be bringing in an ABEC #7 for fishing reels this summer, but it is not in stock yet: http://www.bocabearings.com/main1.aspx?p=product&id=16946&n=SMR693C-2OS_#7_AF2 these fishing reel bearings have "rubber seals" that are non-contact seals so they do not create any drag and they act are more like "rubber shields." let me know if you have any other questions.
