So Saturday I bought a daiwa saltiga 15 star drag and it felt amazing holding it in the store, I went out yesterday (Sunday) and used it for slow pitch jigging rockfish at San Clemente island and I feel like the reel has terrible freespool. When i spin the spool even when the tension knob very loose it spins for maybe 3-5 seconds, versus my other star drags that have all been used for a while that spin for 10-15 seconds with line on them. Any ideas? Thinking of taking it back to the store and asking about it

Checked out the Accurate Dauntless, Those reels can cast good and the spool with line will spin for a long time. I've had almost all the good quality reels on the market and I was sold on the Dauntless reels.

If the reel was brand new and has that issue with free spool, yes take it back and have them check it out. If it was previously owned and fished, maybe some debris entered into the spool, spool shaft causing the limited free spool. Maybe a quick oil of the bearings can help.

My 15sd used to do the same thing from time to time, I would take off the side plate and reinstall it which always solved the problem. I think the side plate shifts a little when cranked under load which causes the spool or spool shaft to rub against somthing internally. When resolved, it should get at least 30 seconds of frees pool.
