Ok.....I love the idea. I’ve had this rod forever. It never works, weight goes....cluster. Tried different lengths etc. maybe take the weight off and use a toothpick to keep it primed. Last Saturday it let me down again. Anybody love their set up and care to share how they make it work. Ready to throw in the trash..!!!

Have 2 in my under gunnel horizontal racks with no problems for years now. I shorten the rig to 3 or 4 hooks max and a 3/4 or 1 oz teardrop weight. I also bend the hook a little in towards the shaft to help it wind in and out Change out the rig after it starts rusting. Service the reels, they are abused, I buy used avet sx's brought cheap. Easy to teardown and clean.

5’ pvc pipe
Lightweight trout Spinning reel connected w hose clamps.
Drill an angled hole for the line to enter the pipe Just in front of the reel.
Only use 3-4 sabiki hooks w a sinker on the end, you don't need 8 hooks.
All the hooks reel inside the pipe when your done.
The sinker sits flush at the end of the pipe.
Super cheap, works EVERY time, literally throw it below deck when done. NEVER tangles.
When u find macs, grab the rod, flip the bail and “bombs away!”
Its stupid easy.

With a spinning reel the line is going to slap like crazy.

Had the same set up for five years and havent broke one line. Run 10 pound test mono to your sabiki connection also be sure and file down that angled hole so it’s nice and smooth for the line going into it😉

Yea I've ran similar setup, it's just that with the spinning reel it slaps like crazy. More of an annoyance than anything. Which is why the eye on spinning rods is huge to contain all that line when retrieving/casting.

Ya I hear ya. I guess for me the trade off of simplicity and dependability makes that small annoyance worthwhile. I can hand it to a 5 year old and they can jig macs!👍🏼
its be fun to try making one w a conventional or a baitcaster.

I love my set up, especially when using on a kayak. Cannon ball sinker is golden on these things.
