Fished with Lal today on the Rubber Ducky. We exited the harbor at 5:30 am and headed toward the Horseshoe, southern section. Water temps were a chilly 55 degrees and the water was a dirty green. it was certainly Lake Pacifica. We have had more stinkers this year than I can remember. Don't know what to say, fishing just sucks right now. We fished the southern Shoe, the green buoy, the northern Shoe, the 105, the 150 and the rigs. We released six Calico Bass and a few Rockfish. Not one single Sand Bass caught? We metered lots of fish and lots of bait. A few of the fish we caught threw up Red Crab. They keep the fish fed and lazy.

Winds came up at 11am, were supposed to be 4-8 in the afternoon, no chance, 10-12 easily and over 15 by the time we reached the harbor at noon.

Oh well, hope things get better soon. We saw a private boater at the docks weigh up a 10-12 pound Yellowtail with the DFG scouts. Certainly a good sign.

Hook up. Cory

I'm speechless. "unable to speak, especially as the temporary result of shock or some strong emotion".

Sorry to hear that Cory. I'm not surprised though as our Sunday trip was just as dismal. Sure beats what I did today.

Was the water nasty with brown streaks? It looked like holding tank water on Sunday :shithappens:

Cory - sorry for the bad results- at least you didn’t waste your time running over to Catalina. A week ago when I reported 54-55 water temps at HK, down from 59-60 just let a few days earlier, some thought the temp guage was inaccurate. Too much wind and cold water everywhere. Thanks for the update.

Just a dirty green at the Shoe and Buoy, outside the jetty a little chocolate was present. Water cleared up as we got closer to the rigs and warmed to 59 degrees.

Good effort, Cory! The wind did come up a lot earlier than forecasted. I was on the 1/2 day Patriot yesterday. We picked up 5 yellows in the afternoon. I was fortunate to get one. Things are definitely looking up!

I think the word is already out on this bite. All the local sportboats were there yesterday along with a few private boaters. They're around the mussel farm.
That is between the Rigs and Izor's right?

The Enterprise and Native Sun were both at the Rigs, both caught a few Tails, outside the middle twin rig. We didn't see either of them catch even a Rockfish in the hour or so we were there? The Victory and Freelance were also there.

We certainly didn't see any signs of Tails, either on the meter or under the birds, and there were huge clouds of birds working the area, we assume feeding on red crabs, although none were near the surface that we could see.

Yup. That's the general area.

Birds were feeding on krill was what skipper said.
