Fishing Wed. 1-12-12, with Lal on his 18’ boat “Rubber Ducky”. We launched out of Davies in Los Alamitos at 5:15 am, and yes it was cold!

Our beginning destination was the Palo Verdes Coastal Reefs. The seas were flat and grease calm, and led to a pleasant ride out to the Reefs. The sunrise was on fire, so I took few pictures:

We arrived had our starting spot, the meter showed only a few marks, however the fish began to chew. The Calico Bass were active and we both got bit instantly. Lal with a 3+ pounder:

It was a steady bite for over an hour, as many Calico Bass were caught and released. Lal seemed to have the knack for the better size Cali’s:

After catching and releasing a limit of Calico Bass and a few Sand Bass I finally landed a decent one:

Twenty out of the first 25 Bass caught were Calico Bass, then Lal caught this 3 pound Sandy:

A bit later in the day I caught a decent sized Sand Bass:

We continued to work the area for a slow pick on both Calico and Sand Bass until about a half hour before slack tide at 9:39 am. The bite came to a screeching halt as we caught only one Calico Bass in 1.5 hours. Lal positioned us in another area that usually produced a decent bite on the mixed Bass. Sure enough we had a slow pick on both Calico and Sand Bass for the next three hours. Our count of released Mixed Bass was now up to 42.

Lal wanted so check out some of the spots on the Horseshoe Bank. On our way we came up on the ¾ day boat Victory, and said our hellos to Ron, a regular on the Wednesday run, and a fantastic report writer for all the fishing report boards.

We checked out a number of hard bottom spots and rocks for very little, a couple of Sandies, a Sculpin, a few Rockfish, and a Calico Bass. Headed over to the Long Beach Wall and picked up a few more Bass.

It was 2:30pm, so we called it a day, having caught and released 48 of our 50 mixed Bass caught, plus all the Rockfish and a Sculpin. The weather was still flat calm, a bit chilly, but very tolerable.

Thanks Lal, another sucessful adventure on the Ducky!

    Hook up! Cory

Most important itme is settling this Visa mess! I'm sure Chris will have some uodated info by then.

My Las Salinas trips are on temporay hold until I'm satisfied there is a solution. Bummer! At least I don't have to fight the border mess coming back!

Well, there's a VISA meeting at the Mexican Consular General's office
in San Diego and press conference to answer questions and issues
this Friday. I'm sure it will be a rocker! :rofl:Hopefully for the GOOD
of all sport and private boat fisherman in Mexican Waters.
Chris has a 2.5 day charter leaving Friday night, I'm sure he'll
hopefully be confident to go by then, and next Tuesdays trip TOO!
Hopefully we'll be on the Finger Bank next Wednesday!
