Unstable weather and lots of Holiday Traffic, kept us off the water for ten days. Our expectations of finding a group of hungry fish, given some 500+ boats hitting every possible fishing spot over the Holiday weekend, was not real positive. However being on the water and given a chance to catch a few fish, with warm weather, and calm seas was good enough.

So we went fishing on the Rubber Ducky, Tue., 05-26-20 out of Davies in Long Beach at 5:30 am. Lal’s Nephew Ryan joined us today. It was a zoo at the launch ramp last week, but much more normal today, about 15 trailers in the lot, and only one boat launching.

The weather was forecasted to be 2-3 knots of wind in the morning and 9-12 in the afternoon. It was dead calm all morning. Water temps were weird, starting with 67.5 just outside the harbor, declining to 63.5 some 5 miles south. There was a dense marine layer all morning.

Upon reaching our beginning destination, which we had not fished for over 2 months, we found some active hungry fish. There was good current, and the little wind was in the right direction. The Bass were hungry, and we found biters in numerous depths, from 55 feet to well over 100. It was a terrific drift direction, allowing us to take advantage of the best structure for an extended time period.

The quality of the fish was equal to the quantity. Probably 20 minutes into our bite Lal caught and released a 4.5 pounder.

All three of us released 3 to 4 pounders repeatedly. Yes we caught our usual amount of babies 10-12 inch Calico Bass and Sand bass. Our triples and doubles were on going, so much fun to see each other hook fish after fish together! Yeah, another triple, yee ha, can’t count the number of times this occurred?

After we had caught and released some 60-70 mixed bass, we all turned to lures, as Lal moved us into deeper water. JP Mini Lures and Colt Snipers were off the charts in hooking fish. I caught our first five pounder, actually 5.25 pounds:

Ryan got on the picture board with a solid four pounder and then another.

Lal caught a number of 4.5 to 4.75 pound Sand Bass.

We often end the day with plenty of Bass caught and released yet may never catch a four pound fish, sometimes only a three pound fish. Today we caught a dozen Bass over four pounds, and two over five pounds. We also caught another dozen between 3.5 and 4 pounds, simply unreal quality for local fishing!

More pictures:

We ended the day with well over 100 mixed Bass, closer to 150. All released to play another day. Who knew?

Hook up! Cory

Ali and Jason, you have got to improve your software ability to move posted pictures around within the post, right now it sucks! I want to place my pictures within my wordage, to match it. it is a nightmare doing so now, did not use to be?

Way to go, guys. Nice to see a good local report. I'll be giving it a shot tomorrow. Did you happen to notice if Nacho had bait? Squid? As always, thanks for the report.
