Just got back from a pretty epic trip on the Royal Star. 7 day trip sponsored by Brandon Hayward's, "The Bight"

Ill try and keep it quick and simple:

With the hurricane coming the ridge was out of the picture for us so it was Guadalupe Island or bust.

Arrived at Guadalupe Sunday early afternoon and right away we started hooking fish. 35-70lb YFT the first day.

Woke up at 4AM every day to make 2 wells of macks. Easy and done in an hour at the most any day.

Each morning we would goto the yellowtail spot and load up, they were biting pretty good every day. I preferred to fish the YoYo and it was getting bit great with the Salas 6X. Also caught a few on my 30lb bait setup. Biggest one looked to be around 25lb, rest were 15lb average.

In the afternoons we would move to a couple different spots for YFT. Each day we found a steady pick of 35-100lb fish with most of the fish being 50-70lb. They were biting 40lb very good and would also bite 50 and 60 sometimes but definitely not as much as 40lb. You could get them easily with 40lb if the sharks were not there but as soon as they showed up each day good luck if you didn't get it to the boat ASAP. We probably lost 1 in 3 fish once they showed up each day.

1/0 -3/0 hooks were all getting bit pretty well. I used Owner Flyliner and Owner Offshore and never had a single failure.

Great group of guys who all got along great the whole time and fished hard. We ended up plugging 2 full RSW wells and we were done fishing early on Thursday as everyone had more than enough fish. I ended up getting 10YFT (biggest was 81lb) and 13 YT. The Jackpot went to my friend Glenn with his 100.6lb YFT. Weather was flat calm the whole time we were at the island also which was awesome.

The captain and crew of the trip were awesome, they were on top of everyone hooked up and we didnt lose a single fish that I saw to any tangles. Fish were gilled and gutted as soon as they hit the deck. Top notch service! Of course the food was awesome the whole time too!

Funny thing out of all my gear I brought I used my least expensive setup for 90% of the time, Penn Fathom 30LD2 on a Seeker 6480H with 40lb Blackwater. Super light weight so holding it all day was easy too! I wore through the cork grip on the rail and used some sweet purple tape someone had to try and save the blank lol.

Heres a couple pics and a vid of the only fish I caught on the gopro haha.

X2 on the video. Gotta love the crew’s immediate attention to prepping the fish on deck.

Great report, I'm on the 10 day leaving on the star the 31st. Hopefully the sharks are gone by then, like our trip last year. Ordered some quick rig circles today from trophy tackle in smaller sizes. Hope to use them to great effect, if the situation calls for it!

Right place, right time on the right rig. Great trip. You guys put together an excellent catch.
Congratulations.
Looks like boats with permits are fishing there and getting it done.

Just a head strap mount. Not sure model number.
What a great trip. While reading your post I thought that my Penn 30LD2 would be perfect, then you said it! Going with the Indy on a 10-day in November. I have never been to Guadelupe.

Contributing some pics. Be warned this is what happens if you hand the guys your phone to take a pic of your fish!!

Alex was super kind to make us some fresh popcorn for 2 nights after he informed us that they don’t have a microwave.
