Capt Roy went long and the gamble paid off. Rode for 21 hours to get 220 miles south and I will let the pictures speak for themselves. Ended the trip with over 1000+ mixed fish; from Yellowtail, Dorado, Yellowfin Tuna, to occasional reds, whitefish and sculpin from folks doing the dropper-loop.

This was my first time on it and you can tell it's been around the block a few times, but it is kept immaculate. My #1 rating gauge when getting on a new boat is to look at the heads. If they're immaculate and there's more than 2, then I have added a new boat to my list. :D The main head on the starboard side is large enough for 2 urinals, a toilet and a normal sized shower.

I was watching you guys closely - am leaving on tomorrow's 3-day...

I presume you headed long to avoid the weather? Fortunately, it's looking like it's going to lay down the rest of this week.

Glad to hear your positive impression of the boat - this'll be my first time on her as well and I'm really looking forward to it. Any comments on tackle storage limitations? I can't tell from the various pics whether there's adequate storage for SKB boxes...

Congrats on your trip!

That is correct about the weather part. Some folks got on expecting to be fishing the same day at San Clemente but he informed us we were going long to get out of the bad weather.

The tackle storage, I won't lie is kind of iffy for such a large boat. If you look at the below picture, you will see that's my bag in that little cubbyhole behind Roy on the port side. I originally had it on the starboard side but it was way too crowded for my liking as I'm always switching out hooks or lures every 5 minutes it seems.

Now don't get me wrong, there's still ample space on each side of the rod racks above both benches plus 3 rows against the back starboard side wall along with 2 rows of benches in front of it as you can kind of see in the below pic. This is just a small issue and i wouldn't hesitate to jump on again at the next available chance. I'm already planning on doing another 3 day next year around the same time-frame.

Check out the video tour also(rod storage wasn't included unfortunately) but check out my favorite part of the boat, that beautiful head at 0:56 into the video!

220+ miles down and on the hook? Is that Cedros?
No cedros is 400 or so miles. Guadalupe island is what they are speaking of I believe. If memory serves me well and being more west. Out of bad swell. The coastal waters had been terr

Darren - Great fishing with you and Tommy again. Always a good time. Congrats on placing in your first jackpot too!!:D Hope to see you fellas again next season.....:-)

Oh, and I completely echo your sentiments about a clean bathroom...makes a huge difference to me. And I don't understand why some of these big ol' LR boats can't have a normal sized throne either. I think the RP has the best facilities of any boat I've been on.

Those deckhands need to sharpen up their gaffing skills !!
I'd be a bit embarrassed the way those DoDo's were gaffed.....

Apparently you've never gaffed a dodo either; at all, off the deck of a sport boat 8' from the water's surface, or in 4' seas. They don't just quit and lay themselves out flat like a yt or tuna, they are constantly jumping around like little firecrackers. I was on that trip this weekend, have ridden at least 15 boats in the SD fleet, and for sure can confirm that Dharyl, Jonathan, Chris, (and even Capt Roy Rose, who was gaffing full speed alongside his crew due to the wide open bite) are some of the best on any deck and should not be embarrassed about anything.
