Don and Pete were due to arrive at my house in Redlands at 4 AM this morning. Don pulls his boat all the way from Yucca Valley. They didn't arrive until after 4:30 as he had a flat on the truck in the dark of the desert. We had to stop and add some air to the spare before we got back on the freeway....Well, hopefully we can still beat the traffic. Made it to Davies around 7, not too bad. Prep the boat and back down the trailer. Boat doesn't start right away and eventually floats off the trailer out into the bay. Bummer, but Don is a genius and realizes its flooding, takes the cover off the fuel filter and is able to putt over to the dock. He figures one of the carb floats is stuck and that is why it keeps flooding and shutting down...So, he pulls the carburetor(no small job, especially over the water) , cleans it, stretches the spring a bit and puts it back together. Fires it up...Purrs like a kitten! Finally, around 8:30 off we go! 'Hey Don, flip the switch on the bait tank, let's fill it up'...........Nothing........Luckily he carries two motors for the bait tank just in case. We do 5MPH all the way to Nacho's trying to get a pump to work. One is completely dead the other too weak. Well, we have dead squid, shrimp, plastics and Iron...Lets go fishing.
We headed out to Izor's to find 3 other boats working it. With the wind and the current we were moving really fast. The scope of the lines was tremendous and it was hard to get to the bottom with 4 oz.of weight. Even with 8 oz. I could get down but it wouldn't stay there long. We managed 2 short calicos, a treefish, a whitefish and Wrasse. Mostly on shrimp. When things started to get bumpy we headed in to fish the breakwall. Chucked plastics and soaked bait for nothing but mackerel. Called it a day around 2:30 and hit the road by 3:45. One Guy at the boat wash had gotten some reds out at the 150, the rest of us , not so much.
All in all an amazing day to see the perseverance and amazing fix-it skills of my friends in fixing the motor, great fellowship and beautiful scenery. God is good! Can't wait to do it again

Nothing worse than boat problems at the ramp, except for boat problems on the water. Awesome it all worked out for you, seems like the more you use a boat the less problems you wind up having. Go get em'.

Boy tuff start. Way to persevere and get on the water. So you caught a wrasse? Cool. What kind of wrasse? I've always wanted to catch a Napoleon Wrasse but those are quite exotic.

We'll at least you salvaged the day. Next time before leaving you should have a check list to verify all the essentials before leaving the house, I:E, start motor, check batteries, pumps, alarms, lights, etc. So when you drop the boat after all the planning before hand you don't have any surprises. Just from my experience.

Sorry to hear about all the apparent signals not to go fishing. It is great partnering in an effort to save the day with your friends. Should have been rewarded for the perseverance.

Me, I live 3M from the DP harbor. Would have been out if my coffee wasn't hot enough.

Had some motor troubles myself last Monday, put the boat in the water and had to pull it right back out. Starting it at the house from now on before we leave. Glad you got to get out!
