Rod for MXJ 6 Raptor

hey guys,

I pick up a new mxj 6 raptor. My plan is to use it as my go to bait stick for paddy yt, dodo's, YFT. I also want to use it for a flat fall set up in a pinch. So I am thinking 65 braid and using the appropriate floro leader for the situation.
For a rod I was thinking 7'6". I am thinking 30/60 lbs. Is this too much for this reel? Any rod suggestions?

Read this first. I now use my MXJ Raptor as a 40# outfit. Only change I've made is put a JX Raptor handle on the MXJ Raptor.
The reel is on an Okuma PCH 761H rated 20-50

thanks, pretty much what I thought. I caught a 120 blue fin this year on a talica 8, 50 braid, and it wasn't that hard at all. Not sure why some guys think the mxj was too small for a 75 yft?
I was looking at the Okuma PCH 761 also, but the 30/60. Maybe I should load it with 50 and get the 20/50 PCH ?

I have an Avet Raptor MXL 6/4 MC 2 speed, that I put 600 yds of 30# Power Pro on and I have been matching it to a Seeker custom spiral-wrapped Black Classic 270H, 7', (15-40). I have also used it on my Seeker Hercules 60H, 6'4", (40-80) which is also a custom spiral-wrapped rod.

Check the United Composites US 76HP

You'll have WAY more factory options if you go with a 7' or 8' FYI

Used mine on both PCH 801H and 801XH. Worked fine. 65# braid. MXJ Raptor is my primary SLP real in AK. Caught a #140 halibut with it. Would not try it on a 80# tuna though.

Why 65# braid? For paddy stuff load it with 50# braid and use a 30-40# leader... you could even go with a 50# leader. For 30# I use a Tilefish Jr and a 76HP for 40# and a Predator 76 for 50#. A Tilefish 80 works for 40-50 too.

I have two MXJ Raptors with 30 and 40# fluoro. Both reels have Toro Tamer 60 - 8 carrier spectra. The reels have plenty of drag for any line pairing up to 50#, but I’ll stick with 30-40# top shots. I’ve opted for two Phenix HAX 780H rods. I've already caught two 50+ pound YFT at Lupe and they were both frisky. A couple of bait wahoo were also no worry for these rods. The rods give me that extra distance casting when it counts. I admit to being no better that a C+ caster. The rods can handle tails, tuna and wahoo. Best of luck
