Just finished the under wraps on a new Seeker 40lb stick, came out to check on it. And it was off the dryer, everything smoothed out for the most part. But a million little jumps now from debris in the glass. So stupid. Hopefully it will all disappear when under the guide wraps and after another glass job.

UPDATE:
Came out clean. I’m going to use tape for safety from no one. Still needs decals and a touch up in spots.

I’ve had it happen once, I still don’t understand how it happened. I was able to sand it down lightly with 400-600 grit and a block to get most of the crap out, reflatten things and salvage it.
I’ll try that out, thanks for the input.

Next year hopefully
I have had one fall out of the dryer using the spring loaded dryer. Two wires hold the rod. If it is turning one way it holds OK if turning the other no good. I sanded down the bad spots and was able to salvage the build.

I hate it when it does that. Nothing worse than wrapping a rod TWICE. Put a wrap of double sided tape on the blank or the rod. It won't come out of any chuck, vise, membrane, or wire. These are in the wrapper and dryers this morning. See the tape?

It's hard to get the rod out even when you want it out. The vise chuck likes to loosen when you're backing up, but not when it's taped.

That’s a great idea. Constantly battling my chucks loosening up.

That CRB wire chuck can act like a screw. You want to make sure the motor is spinning screw on and not screw off.

Mike, I have to work at it, break the tape loose, before I can get the vise chuck to loosen up.

Yep, I used to tape the two chuck wheels together and tape the blank in until I started using double sided tape on the blank.

Fishermen are the masters of repurposing household items and duct tape.

That flat out sucks, had it happen to me, I feel for ya. Fix a tool to make the tool work is what I say.

I have been very hesitant is getting started due to the tool designs out there. HFF Customs sells some rods stands made by a member here that are very well thought out. Wish someone would make a complete rod wrapper setup that does everything we need it to do in its entirety.

Damn, that would blow. I’ve also had the rubber band snap when using the power wrapper in dryer mode. Came out and nothing was spinning. Now I always keep an extra couple bands and check often.

I ended up wet sanding with 600 grit, took the numbs off but left the clear coat hazy. Should clean up after another coat.

Thanks for all the advice guys. It definitely made my stomach drop when I saw it.

I just listed a rod dryer in the classifieds here on BD, it has the rubber gaskets in, different sizes. I had the best luck with this set up, did not like the plastic chucks on the Pac Bay, Batson, etc. they always came unscrewed.

Two things to pass along.

Using a power head with a vise chuck and two motors, a wrapping motor that spins in one direction, and a dryer motor that spins in both directions, the dryer needs to be spinning in the same direction as the wrapping motor. Spinning a rod one way tends to tighten the chuck and spinning the wrong way tends to loosen it just from the rotation.

The wire chuck has a similar problem. Look at the wires and spinning one way the wires tend to "screw on" to the blank and spinning in the other direction the wire chuck tends to "screw off."

I figured out why I had a rod fall out of the dryer. I wasn't paying attention and screwing off. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.
