i suggest selecting rods with ratings that match flouro u plan to use. if u r using trinis all for live bait (which it seems), 7-8’ rods will suffice. but maybe consider using one of trinis for casting jigs n go for 9 ft rod in 30-60 or so range for that reel.

looks like u r buying lot of rods. keep in mind supply is low right now, which means price is high. if i were u, i’d also consider other brands, esp if buying used so you could have btr chance getting some deals. imo, more important to have proper rated rod in good working condition, than particular brand.

Is 80# braid the biggest braid normally for big tuna setups? I see this listed above. I have 80# on a few, but am thinking of moving up to 100-120? How do you figure 20lb of drag with #40 braid? 50% drag? Just trying to figure-thanks!

Just returned from 1.5 on Tomahawk. Captain Mike Strongly recommended bringing a 100# outfit. I brought a 7'6" UC Viper paired with a Mak 20 SEa loaded with 700 yards of 100# JB metered braid with a 15' 100# fluoro topshot. Right in the sweet spot. I boated 120, 125 and this 185# all on the Viper. All on jigs at night.

Just FYI I see a lot of posts here where guys RENTED a big rig from one of the SD Landings...rod reel, spectra pre-tied top shot, and a tackle pack of hooks, flat falls etc. For those who can't afford a $1000 rig to fish bigger tuna, quite a good alternative FYI. Especially out of town/staters.
Don't go to a big Bluefin fight with a pea shooter. LOL

I went by seaforth today, rental price is $40.00 for a rainshadow rod (sorry I only saw it was 80-130) and a TLD30 with new 100# topshot. Seems like a deal vs buying!
