My boat partner Frank, Cody(longboard85) and myself headed out for our first fishing trip of the year in our 2520. Launched from Shelter Island @0545 and headed over to EBros. There was a short 20min wait for some lively Dines and a couple of Mack's. Cleared the point at 0630 and ran down on the inside. Hit some fog right at the islands.. 1/4 mi visability. A couple of knuckleheads flying around in the fog. Got down to the area around 0900. Flat calm and we got to metering around for fish. Had some bottom marks and started yo-yoing for nada. Switched to dropper-loops and started hitting some Rock Fish. We had an assortment of fish including a nice Ling that Cody brought up. Water temp was 60. No yellowtail in sight and around 1100 the wind and chop hit. We started working our way North and heard the yellowtail bite was going down on the inside of North Island. It was a parking lot with privates and sporties cruising looking for yellows. We started picking fish off on meter marks. Small wolfpacks of yellows we're cruising around. We decided to stay put and pick them off as the cruised past. I got the first yellow on a JRI mint surface jig slow trolled. Not long after that I hooked up another yellow on a Salas 6x Jr birdshit but that came undone.. damn! Picked off a nice rock fish on the yo yo. Frank got hit and soon he was pulling on another nice yellow on the dropper--loops. Cody got his yellow soon after to complete his Hat Trick for the day. And by now the conditions sucked but we kept trying on meter marks until we needed to leave the parking lot and head for home. Snotty ride back made for a long trip. Back at SI around 1630 with a nice haul of fish. It's gonna be a gud Summa!
