A special Thank you to Nick Tharp from El Tiburon Sportfishing in Santa Barbara for taking us to the land of giants. What was supposed to be a local trip due to the weather forecast predicting 6-7 foot swells and 6 sec became nothing short to the predictions. We decided to run up the coast and fish his glory hole for an epic trip on rockfish from 3 to 8 pounds (I think a few were bigger honestly than 8), lings to 15 pounds and white fish. (Majority of the reds were 5 pounds.) We managed to catch all our rockfish on the Damiki Tokon 60gram jig on light tackle all in less than a hour and a half and lings all on swimbaits. Excellent trip testing new gear for next year. Good times! SHALLOW WATER FISHING AT ITS FINEST! Nothing deeper than 180 ft. It's pretty awesome when you can go for 3/4 of day and get on the same fish or even bigger fish than the party boats in Ventura for about the same price and fishing in less than 200 ft of water rather than 300/360.

The more north you go, the bigger the rockfish. The further south you go, the bigger the yellowtail and yellowfin tuna.

Shallow water rockfishing is one of my favorite things to do. Nice haul. :hali_olutta:
