There is only 1 rock-fishing reel I would recommend....Penn 4/0 113H narrow. Tall spool makes for easy smooth cranking. I also fish a 6/0 114H Extra Narrow....the "Cod Hammer" :)

Lotsa different rods, but a 7' 30-50 is good. I usually fish 260-450ft by hand and then go full electric after that...500-3000ft.

Hands down I’d go with a Penn Fathom 20 level wind. Load with 40lb braid and add a 50 foot top shot of 25-30 mono. For rods I like something lightweight and graphite in the 7 foot, 20-40 or 20-50 range.

You can also look at the Squall’s if you want to save some $$.

Go with a level-wind and you'll be a happy angler when they're DEEP...
But if they're Really Deep the Diawa Tanacom electric reel is the cure for my arthritis...

I use a shimano trevala medium power and okuma komodo with 40lb braid. Works great for rockfish, lingcod, and halibut. Enjoyable to fish anywhere from 2-12oz for jigging or dropping live bait. Can also troll 16-24oz lead no problem.

Honestly though don't overthink it. You can use anything for rockfish.

Trevala with the low gear Tranx 400 and power handle works nice. I only use Jigs. I have one of the Shimano lucanus jig specials for deeper

You will like that set up. The 670 is a good rockfish rod. Can. Fish 30 or 40 lb. penn fathom 25 is perfect for that as well. Quality live bait reel for yellows or smaller tuna too. Good choices.

There’s a guy on offer up selling a penn squall 30 and carnage 2 for $125.00 with $13 to have it shipped from Texas. Nice little beater rockfish rig.

My 200-300 ft rig is a Shimano Tekota 700 [star drag very solid reel] with 50 pound braid (reduced water bow in the line) on a 6ft 6in classic seeker 20~50 roller tip rod....no line issues with level wind; I use a Tekota 500 also w/ 50 braid for mid-water on a 7 ft seeker classic (30), and then usually bring an Avet JX2 or LX2 with 30# / 40# topshot on a 7.5 or 8 ft in case some yellowtail come by; and a 20# / 25# outfit on an 8ft for fun and mid-water. Yes, I know I could get by with just 2 outfits (either Tekota and JX2), but I own 'em so I might as well use them....
