This applies to Central and Northern California only.

Following Oregon's closing of all rock fishing in September, it seems California is heading in the same direction, though for now it's just canceling the depth limit increase for 2017, and probably the all depth season planned for November and December this year.

    Ignorance was the main problem:

There was, and probably still is, a danger of the entire season being closed:

I have never trusted the agenda of the fish counters. Why not slip a few yellow eye into the weekend counts to put an end to the seasons.

I might be wrong, but wasn't the max. depth in the 2016 regs. set at 300 feet, not 30 fathoms? 30 fathoms is only 180 feet.

In norcal they were going to have a couple of months of no depth restrictions. I thought it was november and december, aparently it was sooner. This did not apply to Socal.

Our depth was just increased from 120' to 180' this year and was supposed to be unlimited from Nov 1st to Dec 31st. Now, instead of unlimited depth, we're getting cut back to 120' for the rest of the season. I guess it's still better than the previous seasons ending on Oct 31st.

well they probably opened it up out to 50 fathoms so this would happen and it will never open again!
Not sure where all these yellow eye were landed, not many people around here even fish out there, the party boats would know better than to land yellow eye, so where did all these landings come from??????

Don't be so sure, they ain't done yet! Big push to follow Oregon's lead, close all rock fishing north of Cape Mendo as of 10/31/17. New it was too good to be true.

That wouldn't surprise me at all. I'd like to see the data the fish counters turn in. I don't let them on my boat anymore. I'll gladly invite any fish and game or any other LE on my boat, but I think there's an agenda with the data collection... and it's not in the fishermens favor.

Charter boats out of Ft Bragg (and I'm sure elsewhere) are very mindful of preserving the fisheries they fish, (it's their bread and butter). It would behoove us ALL for F&G to consult with these guys who are out on the water every day. Get their "common sense" perspective before making decisions solely based on flawed, agenda biased data.
