Kyle, 38, served four tours in Iraq and was awarded two Silver Stars, five Bronze Stars with Valor, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and one Navy and Marine Corps Commendation.
From 1999 to 2009, Kyle recorded more than 150 sniper kills, the most in U.S. military history.
After leaving combat duty, Kyle became chief instructor training Naval Special Warfare Sniper and Counter-Sniper teams, and he authored the Naval Special Warfare Sniper Doctrine, the first Navy SEAL sniper manual. He left the Navy in 2009.

What a shame. True American hero right there. His book was a good read as well.

    WTF is wrong with people?

Such a sad story, mental health issues are the cause of most of these shootings.

Thanks to all or troops, past and present....

A great loss. Murdered by a person he was trying to help. Take the money they're spending on banning guns and put it towards mental health!

Ditto. Very sad. PTSD is being blamed. These warriors are coming home, and many are a ticking time bomb. I hope most, if not all can find and reach out for the help.

    RIP warrior.

    So sad.

When will people learn- mental illness and firearms is a very bad combination.

    Rest In Peace Chris Kyle.
My prayers for his family. If you get a chance you should read his book. It will give you tremendous insight to the man and what those men do.
    A true hero.

I spoke to one of my closest friends today about Chris Kyle. My friend is one of the most humble people you will ever meet. He is also a Navy Seal and went thru B.U.D.S with Chris. This is what he said about the situation.

The killer Eddie Ray served very little time in combat and most likely has only seen a fraction of the traumatic things Chris Kyle has seen fighting for our country. Yet Eddie claims to suffer from PTSD. Eddie Ray didn't kill Chris because of PTSD, he has been broken from the beginning.

    R.I.P Chris Kyle

this is usually the case, those of us who have been in for awhile have a built in resiliency due to a large amount of training and combat experience.
