Anyone fished the Tern 600XN ?

I have the Tern 500 -- power geared. I love it for live bait and surface fishing - usually 30 or 40 pound leader on 65 braid.

Now I am thinking about the Tern 600XN and using the 53 inch per crank retrieve for once or twice a year Wahoo fishing and on the slide; more often as YoYo reel or medium flatfalls, and general use.
I wil probably load it with 65 pound hollow and fish with a 50 or 40 pound leader.

    Your thoughts ?

    THANKS !!

I have a Valiant 600NN single speed that I picked up cheap also just for wahoo bombing. It’s really narrow and I can’t even put on a clamp around a small reel seat on a Predator. Spool is the width on my thumb.

XN is more narrow than a NN ?

The 600xn is the 6.1 tern narrow... I believe the the nn is narrower.

Woooow. Thanks for the pics, that 600nn is real thin.....I am debating between the 600nn, valiant 600n or tern 600n...it will be used for tuna speed jigging in the gulf of mexico. Any thoughts about valiant vs tern for jigging (star drag vs lever drag)?

I have never used a Tern but I think the TernXN is wider than the ValNN

For the NN line capacity is no issue but with a narrow spool your jig speed will be faster even with a lot of line out. I use the NN just for wahoo as I need a lot of speed and don’t need 2spd.

Thanks for the answer, it makes sense the 600nn for wahoo. The tern xn should be the same width as a 600n. The x refers to high speed, we think that it means extra narrow, it means it is a 6:1 narrow. The tern 600n is a 4.1 narrow. What about a two speed vs a single speed for vertical jigging?

I've been also thinking about the Tern 600XN for mainly wahoo and a backup yoyo. I think the NN might be good for just wahoo and not yoyo, I kind of like the versatility because I'm not made of money.

I use the 600NN single spd for just wahoo bombs because there is a slim chance of hooking a tuna on da bomb vs 600N 2 speed for the Raider type of heavy iron where there is a chance to hook a big tuna.

As far as single vs 2spd for vertical jigging ? If there is a chance of hooking a large tuna, then I would go with a 2spd especially with a high gear ratio 6:1 reel.

    Why not yoyo?

So in your opinion a tern will be out of the question?

That's what I love about fishing, so many options and style. So a multipurpose reel will be the valiant 600n, not a tern 600n nor valiant 600nn. Right?
