I picked up this ol' 24' Reinell flybridge that was for sale here earlier this year. I'm not in a hurry to get it done, but I want to do it right. I have more questions than answers since I've never rebuilt a boat before.

My first issue is the floors (inside). They are.... Gone.
I figure it's going to need that much, so what material is best? My best guess is 3/4" ply. What say you?

I had a 23' reinell with a chrysler 318 and Volvo 270 about 7 years ago in northern california. Great boat/hull with a very reliable and efficient power combo. Post some pictures up I will see if I can dig any up of mine

I'm pretty sure the stringers are good, but I'll be honest, I'm not sure of it. I know the transom is good!
I don't know what the original floor was since it is gone. The interior of this boat has been gutted out. All that is left in the helm and an old captains chair.

I'll try and get some pics of it, or try to post the link of its for sale add from earlier this year.

Just incase I do need to replace the stringers... I got to thinking.

My Arima has metal stringers. How hard would it be to convert this old Reinell to metal stringers? It might be a little pricy, but can anyone give me other reasons not to?

Some pics are always helpful. You don't need marine plywood above the water line. Why was the deck removed. With the deck opened up, checking the stringers will be easier, good luck and post your project,,,gregg

"My Arima has metal stringers"

you sure about that?

110% positive! Arima started using metal for stringers about 1983/84. Mine is an 86.

Not sure why the floor was taken out. Probably rotted. Pretty much all the exterior wood is crap. The outside deck seems pretty solid, but I think it's just held in with bolts for easy removal. The fuel tank had been replaced at some point, and that's why I believe it is like that.

Haha, thanks John. It's going to take some time, but I get in it and see what I want to do... I just have to figure out how.

Yes, the cheap boat will surely cost a pretty penny, but it will be a fun job, and done the way I want it (which will be close to it's original form). Most of the cost will be in replacing the old rotted wood, and adding electronics. I might have to learn how to do upholstery too.

i had one of these boats and i loved it. very dry ride, fast to jump on plane, and the cabin is just big enough to get everything done. i had my stringers replaced also. BUT check the fuel tank before you go further. mine cracked on me. if you are in this far... trust me its worth it!! both of my boats have had the tanks replaced and the cheapest one was over 4k. the last one was over 8k. ill dig up some old pictures of it tonight. good luck with the build

I would love to see some pics!

I hear that about the tank... I was told mine was replaced with an aluminum tank by a previous owner.

If the deck on mine comes out as easily as it looks, I will remove it to inspect everything under there including the fuel tank, which I need to measure to find out it's capacity.
