I'll admit I've probably been guilty of this one plenty of times, but usually the crew instructions are to get the hook in the bait as quickly as possible so you can get it out of your hand. Every moment in your hand it's dying and losing scales. Definitely good to be courteous of other people getting to the bait well though
It’s understandable to get it and pin it and go, but it’s more about those who continue to fumble and not be aware of how long it’s been.
I should probably be more understanding because they’re probably newer to fishing

Three years ago I hook a 100+ lb blufin on 40lb during the day. I fight the fish for over an hour and I have it almost to the boat. It is the only fish going and is making big circles. No one else is even near me and the fish is only 8' or 10' down. The fish is well over 100lbs and easily the jackpot for the entire trip. Some guy is fishing a flatfall on heavy line on the wrong side of the boat and his jig goes under the boat and he snags my fish. He starts yelling I'm bit, I'm bit and is pulling on my fish. We can see his line wrapped around my fish and the crew is yelling at him to slack off but he keeps pulling. My line breaks and now he is pulling on my fish with his flatfall snagged in the side of my fish. He continues to yell that he is bit until a few seconds later the jig pulls out and the fish swims away. The guy had been fishing on the wrong side of the boat the entire trip and the crew had told him numerous times he was on the wrong side and to keep the wind in his face. The crew tried to explain to him what happened but he was so clueless that I don't think he ever understood what he did.

The old Asian guy that grabs his bait from the hand-well and proceeds to hook his bait while he's walking back to the rail, with his rod in the horizontal position - like one of those medieval jousters. Pretty funny until he jabs me in the eye, lucky for me (and him) I had my glasses on - sent 'em flying. Yep, I dropped a few F-bombs on him - wake the fuck up :slap: !!!

Decades ago I saw a buddy get so mad that he broke his rod over his knee and threw it in the lake LOL I wish I could remember the circumstances that lead up to it but there was definitely alcohol involved

People who leave their rods they aren't using propped against the rail at a 45 degree angle. One of these days someone is gonna get real mad when I step on their rod and break it

I try to identify that guy and preemptively educate him but it usually doesn't work
solution: we, as anglers aware of the situation, give them a 4oz sinker and rubber band, tell them it's the hot new way to rig.

they'll still get bit (probably more than they ever will with that windblown ball of line out to the horizon because now they actually have control over their line), AND stay out of everyone's line. win win.

Arriving early to get in line for a good tackle spot. Got on and place my bag up front. Turn my back and find my bag pushed back and another bag right where mines was. I came back and placed his bag on the ground and waited for him to show up. He went crying to the deck hand that his bag is big and he needs a spot 😤😤😤

Hooked up to a fish and it's hauling ass and i'm running down the side of the boat yelling HOT RAIL, HOT RAIL COMING DOWN to only get to a guy that literally stands there and doesn't move at all.
Need to let them know if your going under or over so that they can move, you need to say more than only hot rail. Give people a chance to move for you.

The problem with that here, is I have recieved wrong instructions too many times from people telling me, or reading what they meant wrong. What I found that works for me, is observe the angler that needs to get by, and move accordingly.

As long as he gives you enough time to move. Running as fast as he can may not give you enough time. I do understand you and I try to go the same.
