I received the bad news yesterday Ray Jarvis passed away from David Tang (Fishybuzz). For those of you who have had the distinct pleasure of fishing with Ray you know any trip he was aboard was enhanced the moment you saw his smiling face. Ray was larger than life and lived most every moment as if it was his last. Dr.'s orders were one thing and Ray's orders were another. Sometime he listened but like his life much of the time he did not heed the advice of others preferring to max out each day and night with Ray dictating the terms. Ray left a legacy of friendships and memories in so many people. I will miss Ray but he can be assured how ever long I have left at some point on every future Long Range Trip I will be lifting a Scotch/Rocks, possibly J.W. Blue, toasting our old friend Ray. Heck, I am sure there will be a great cigar with his name on it as well. Be well my friend.

As a note:I am sure Dave Tang or Bill Casper will provide more details but for now I say goodnight to a great man Ray Jarvis.

Ray was a very nice guy & good angler. He was on one of my last LR trips, and the first to welcome me to BD. RIP.

    Jaime,

A scotch and a cigar just won't be the same

Ray was a very special friend who I had the honor of sharing the rail with on more than one occasion....yesterday was one of the toughest days of my life, a part of me died and I am only buoyed by the fact that he and I will share a rail ( and a scotch ) again on the other side.
Although we didn't have the whole crew together yesterday.....His wife and son (Vicki and Cos),Willy, Fishy, Cofe and myself had quite a time with Ray as we laughed and joked with him all afternoon even though he couldn't hear us, although I think he did, and then we toasted him when he passed with some Johnny Walker....he would have wanted it that way.

Fair Seas, Big Fish and Tight Lines Gumba

    Love ya
    Jim

PS It's only 90 pound string....you can go ahead and pull hard Gumba

If you ever were fortunate enough to share a trip and the rail with Ray, you were blessed. I will never forget how friendly he was and so open to share his knowledge and gear if you were interested or in need. Very generous in spirit, always living life on his terms, with a token tip of the hat to his doctors.

His memory lives on, and I am a better person for having known him.

This was a 173 pounder that Ray and I tagged teamed at the Hurricaine Bank.....he handed the rod to me to finish this bad boy off and then he leaned in and whispered to me " It's only 90 pound string Gumba " and I said...." you can pull pretty hard on 90 pound Gumba....it's okay"

damn I'm going to miss him

I'm very proud to have called Ray a friend. He'll be missed.

I've looked and looked and have no photos of him although we shared several trips. Let's honor his memory with some photos of the good times.

I lost a brother yesterday the 12 hours at the hospital seemed like minutes because I didn't want to say goodby...a better friend you couldn't find......he and I fished every trip together for the past 6 years 3 or 4 a year and he was always vintage Ray....a man who lived life to the fullest and always on his terms...and that is the way he passed, on his terms. We have lost a special man...one of a kind.....Adios Gumba I'll see you on the other side.
