jumped on the overnite trip march 3rd out of davey's locker for $109.
BOAT. the thunderbird. paid $10 j-pot $2 for sack. and NO FUEL CHARGE!:)
CREW. capt jeff on the helm with 2nd capt(forgot his name) galley/deckhand jesse, 1st deckhand james and pinheads chase and "lucky charm".
CONDITIONS. winds around 12 knots or less sat nite. flat calm t-shirt weather during the day. water temp was around 57 where we were fishing. drift speed .5 knots or less.
BAIT. live squid and frozen squid.
TACKLE. for rockfishing, i used my calstar 800m/avet hxj 2 speed with 65# braid, 10 ft of 40# mono top shot for "shock absorbent"
RIG. i kept it simple. D D loop with 3/0 eagle claw hooks and 16oz weight.
FISHING. it was awesome!!! 1st drift was shallow, around 200ft for decent size fish. capt didn't like the quality so we moved on to deeper water. 2nd drift was around 300ft. quality picked up but it was mostly salmon groupers so we got our limits of the stinkys and moved on. then capt jeff decided to hit one of his "honey holes" and then it happened...
this spot was alittle deeper, around 350ft. soon as we hit bottom it was game on! big ol reds started coming over the rail mostly by 2's!!! this spot was just stacked with fish! I'd say 90% of the fish that was coming up were reds. no mre than 3 seconds after you hit bottom, it was WHAM BAM THANK YOU MA'AM!!! 2 more drift here and we were done. LIMITS FOR ALL by noon! . since we had time to kill, capt took us back by the kelp line as we caught perch (wide open) and 2 short calicos to finish off the day.
CATCH. limits of rockfish for all (mostly reds) and some perch to go with it.
personally i ended da day with 8 reds(4-8lbs) and 2 big salmon groupers.
thanks to capt jeff for puttn us on quality fish and to jesse and james for working on the tangles, gaffing floaters and etc and the pinheads for always having cut bait around, hosing down soaking our sacks! it was a memorable trip indeed. I WILL BE BACK!!! PS my phone was dead so i couldn't take pics but the crew did so hopefully they will post some pics. (dont make me look bad guys!)

Here are a couple more pictures from the trip.

18 anglers 108 reds, limits of Bocaccio and enough assorted to fill out the sacks... good way to shake that winter dust off the rods

The weather for Friday, Saturday and Sunday is looking to be perfect for more of the same.

We have trips scheduled to fish Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday every week. $99 Wednesday & Friday and $109 Saturday & Sunday, NO FUEL CHARGE!!!. Give us a call in our office, we'd love to have you out. 949.673.1434
