Was on the fence about going out today. Logged into BD and saw pacificscout was already on the water with a couple buddies.- (Nice Halibut Sir) Decided I was not going to be a gell again, so I mustered the energy to go. Left the lime green DP harbor at about 8:30 am.
There was a fair amount of debris on the water, most of it small. Did see this paddy that was holding bait at 80 feet of water
Attempted to drop on that 600 deep foot area I spied out a few days ago. I was staying in place, not drifting, but the current was ripping downhill. Too much scope with 24 oz. Took 3 pounds to drop even close to 100 feet of the spot. Not into guessing at 600 feet, plus reeling in that much weight was a lot of work. Abort.
Moved inside to where the kayaks fish. They looked bored. I pulled up a small Barred Bass first drop in the murky water. Did a slow pick over the next hour or so and caught 6 total, ½ Calico Bass. 3 on the chartreuse and 3 on the burnt orange plastic. All participants will live another day.
Fat Girl
All that marbled off color water appears to be run-off from the storms. Fish were in it and hungry. With Red Tide all fish life would be gone in the area from my experience. In addition, when the prop went through the crap, the water would look clearer. This tells me it is more concentrated at the surface. BTW water was 59-61 degrees, getting warmer.
I did a couple “S” turns to show this difference.
Just through the camera
Camera through my polarized glasses.
WTH knows. Any BD marine biologists here?
Back at home and washed down by 1:30 pm. Two more weeks till Rock Fishing. Any day on the pond is a good day in my book!
