Hey fellas! I used to mess around on this forum a while back when I fished with SoCalRedneck and Jailer1. I ended up moving back to my home town of Walla Walla and lost touch. Long story short I’m finally in a position to buy a solid tuna/salmon boat. I’ve been looking into Defiance and Parker’s. I looked into a north river offshore but I’m just not able to do that kinda price tag. Looking at a 250 admiral or something close to that. Anyways thought I would reach out to you guys who have a Sh&t load more knowledge and experience then I do. For live bait rods I was looking at seeker black graphite 8ft’ers with avet reels. Not sure which model avets I should use or is theirs something better now? Also not sure if I can get away with ugly sticks or some cheaper rods. Also I would love some suggestions on troll rods and reel set ups as well.

On a side note I did get ahold of Kevin (jailer1) so I’m hopeful I can get him out on the boat when I go. It sure would be awesome to return the favor!

All B.S aside I’m looking for information on defiance boats or something comparable and bait and troll rod and reels for Tuna.

Pretty excited to finally be in the market for a tuna/salmon set up, I’m tired of catching these Columbia river 🥾’s I need some chrome in my life again😂.

Glad to be back!

WOW, haven't heard Jailer1's name in eons. Everyone will have their own opinion, what you are thinking will work.
If you hear from Kevin say hi for me!

Sometimes I look at boat prices online and I wonder where all the deals are. Seems like a bad time to buy anything. I have also heard some builders are 1-2 years out to build, but just here-say, I haven’t contacted anyone.

At least when I bought my Parker I was able to haggle and make a deal. In todays market not sure if I’d have than same ability.

There is a metric shit ton of info and shit talk on this forum about Parker’s and Defiance’s. You could probably entertain yourself for awhile sorting through and reading it all. 😂

I have a 2320 it’s a good fit for me. And just went 62 miles out for some tuna last weekend, most expensive fish I ever ate was the one I caught 😂🤣. I’d be happy to answer any questions you may have about my 23’ Parker.

My boss has a 260 Defiance (yes 260 not 250) for sale up on the Defiance boat lot.

    Good luck.

Holy shit those were $130k at the boat show just like 3 years ago.
And a NR 3100 SXL (granted, super loaded) is mid fours. Same prices as the quote I have on a new Hewes 290 Adventure. Shit’s wild out there.

All my bait rods are 7’6” thrashers. I’ve been very happy with them. So much so I bought 6 and have 2 more “crow bars” for BFT on the way.

I put avet MXJs on 4 of them. Then have accurate boss narrow 500s on two of them.

I tried the shimano trvalas and liked those as well.
Dude thank you for the info!!

Do you have a specific rod/reel set up you like for trolling?

ugly sticks make up almost all of the troll and live bait rods on my boat. This is not a finess fishery where you need the sensitivity of a high end rod. penn GTI's (with upgraded drag washers) and a couple penn fathoms for troll gear. Couple avet reels and shimano baitrunners for live bait. I would spend more on jigging gear for lighter weight equipment. You can spend more on Gucci gear but its not needed for the average fisherman (but it fishes nice lol) For a fishing boat I would go with something with a walk around pilot house (there is a sweet looking Farollon 23' on craiglist) or of course Pacific skiffs was my choice. North River and Allied make them also but ouch, they were way out of my budget. Just my .02.

My boat has some thrasher jigging rods and ugly stock jigging rods. They double duty as halibut and deep water ling cod rods.

To me the albacore is a live bait fishery. I would spend my money on some quality reels and rods for live bait fishing. It gets expensive, but I just buy them a little at a time.

Kevin for a bit! He’s doing good. Sounds like he’s in the hunt for another boat! So maybe just maybe we will get jailer1 back out killing fish and not bugs with his Harley 😂😂
