Islands Pura Vida nados halibut trip

Left the slip at 5:30 am saturday after pulling some deans and mackeral from my receiver , a little bumpy heading out but still made 16 knotts , tried the inside south end of south island in 77 feet of water which was a mistake , I should have stuck to my game plan for the time of year and fished the deeper water, after a hour and a half of catching calico bass , sand bass and sculpin with no halibut I headed below south island to fish the deeper water and on the first drift in 107 feet of water we boated our first flatie which was about 10 pounds and quickly released , next drift in 113 feet of water my long time fishing buddy Darryl lands a 15 pounder which he wants to keep ,after that we caught and released a half dozen or so big sand bass , 4 to 6 pounds and a hand full of sculpin which all were released and then Mother nature kicked up her heels and that was that , I put out the sea anchor and we changed our sinkers to 6 ounces which didn`t help so we headedback to the slip , Leason learned on my part for wasting time on shallow water and having to leave due to the weather , I was able to find the fish in deeper water and I would have been able to spend more time drifting the deeper water and maybe had a shot at a bigger fish , I didn` t catch any halibut today but I had a blast all the same , so maybe next time ill have some pics of nicer fish to show you , good luck and see you on the water

What is the preferred rig for deep water halibut? Carolina? dropper?

Dropper , barrel swivel to a 3 way to sinker leader and a leader to the bait
