    Puerto Vallarta Inshore Fishing Report

Made the trip to PV with the family for spring break and decided to squeeze in a couple days of inshore fishing. The offshore bite was fairly slow due to cold green water, so decided to stick to the inshore fishery that had treated me so well the last time I was there.

Met Captain Danny Gomez on aboard the Dhamar at 6:00 sharp and we headed out to the reefs near Punta de Mita. The plan was to slow troll live bait while I casted sticks and poppers up front to cover as much water as possible. It wasn't long before we saw a school of feeding roosters and made a long cast into the boil with the Salty Water Tackle (SWT) Maestro 77H and an Orca popper. Two twitches and BAM! Line tight... that rooster put on a nice aerial show for us. Nice way to start the morning!

We moved out to the islands where we saw something I've never seen before... 15-25 pound jacks cruising the reef by the THOUSANDS. The sea was literally yellow. Non-stop action all afternoon casting sticks and poppers. Every cast, over a dozen large toros would compete for the offering. They hit like mini-GTs!
We called it a day after our arms couldn't take it anymore.

The next couple outings was more of the same. Got some nice action on my lite setup for some bottom fishing. Hooked into some groupers on the Lucanus jig. Also got smoked by a pargo that cut the line in the rocks. No chance in hell on that one.

Also witnessed some amazing scenes that mother nature put on display for us. Countless wales surfacing. Spinner dolphin putting on a show. And last but not least, a sea lion "playing" with a cubera snapper by throwing it up in the air and catching it and doing it over & over.

I love PV and will definitely go back for more... next time for the Tunas!
Thanks to Danny Gomez for working hard in putting us on the fish. And thanks to the boys at Salty Water Tackle for creating the Maestro series rods...

Till next time, tight lines fellas!

That sounds like a great trip. I was looking into trying to possibly book an inshore trip to make my stepson out on a fishing excursion mid-May and getting a ballpark estimate on the cost for a short inshore charter. I'll definitely look into Danny for that
