Hey everyone new to the page so I thought I'd say what's up and ask a few question while I'm at it. So I recently started kayak fishing and I'm pretty much all geared up. This is gonna be my first season out in the SF bay on my yak which is a Feel Free Lure 13.5 with overdrive pedal system. Gonna be using my dads Progear Albacore 540 and I can't seem to find the Line capacity info for it anywhere for braid or mono. Also gonna be using this reel for Lingcod, Halibut, Rockfish, stripers and maybe a couple salmon if I don't buy a new salmon rod before season. I was thinking of using 40 pound braid. What pound braid should I use? Also any gear you'd recommend for my first outing this Saturday would be appreciated.

With that much capacity a fish could make it out to the Farallon Islands before spooling you:D

What weight should I put on. I was thinking 500 yards of 50 pound braid and some backing but idk. Could I just put on 500 yards?

Going by your last post, 100-150 yds 60lb mono backing to 500yds 50lb braid main to 40, 30, 25 lb fluoro/mono topshot...or some other mix as long as your strongest line is on the bottom and lightest on top.

Unless...you are in a situation where your tag end is subject to significant abrasion. Then the topshot can be heavier than your 50lb braid but then you have to live with whatever outcome if you get snagged on the bottom.

I'd go with 400 yds of 65# spectra then top with whatever mono is appropriate for the trip you're heading out on.

Well since most of the bay is 8-30' and depth restrictions on lings caps you out at 240'

200 yards of 30# mono backing(first string, big game-whatevers cheaper)
200 yards 65# braid on top.
No need to topshot unless fishing for lings and rockfish(mono for abrasion resistance)
Everything else up here will eat a leaders length from braid
For what your doing you'll never see that mono again and wont spend $150 on braid.

For this Saturday, buy or make a shrimp pump and go pump some ghost shrimp and mud shrimp
Make sure you have a sturgeon report card and go chase Diamondbacks in san pablo. Weather looks great
