Last two times I flew directly out of Brown Field in San Diego my vehicle was parked in secure parking ...landed in Ensenada for customs then to Cedros......left at 8 am and was fishing at 2 PM the same day. The food and water at the fishing operation was great all the bottled water you wanted....

Sorry for the slight thread detour . . . my wife doesn't like fishing but loves hanging out at beach-front resorts. I realize that the hotel is very small, but is it worthwhile for non-fishermen?

I'm told the fly in to Cedros has been a huge success for the area and Mexicans are looking to expand the idea at other locations in Baja.

If your wife is into archeology there are some great sites and Cedros Outdoor Adventures has a solar powered hot water spa on the beach which is nice...

Not to rain on anyone's optimistic parade but.....whomever pulled whosever strings and / or had enough say so for the powers that be to declare "off limits" has some kind of pull. Muy fuerte. Now, if you were the shot caller, would you give it back ?
The tough part for many people, myself included, is that it sort of takes away the 5 day trip. Coming from out of town, and everything that comes with it just isn't the same as when I lived in San Diego. A 3 day trip is just too short and an 8 day is a much larger commitment so a 5 was a nice compromise. While all anglers have their favorites, mine would be Yellowtail. In my spot an 8 day trip is now a minimum. With Cedros and Benitos off limits, a 5 day trip just doesn't cut it.

I need to offer information regarding this post because it has errors.

The information is based on the Cedros Sportfishing operation, not the others. 1) crossing the boarder happens via a bridge walking 100’ via the CBX between Otay Mesa and the Tijuana International Airport, 2) you do not leave your car in Mexico, you park it in the US in a secured lot similar to lots at LAX, 3) the chartered plane is small, it is operated by Aéreo Servicio Guerrero and is 14 passenger Cessna Grand Caravan, the plane has an incrediable safety record, 4) transferring from the landing at the airport could not be easier, you are met by the lodge staff, they handle all your bags and you travel in an air condition van to the lodge, and 5) the water at the lodge is purified, bottle water is provided on the pangas and the food is simply outstanding.

I go every year and the entire experience is great. I know it is not right for everyone but if you want to experience SoCal Sportfishing on “steroids” you might want to consider going.

And yes I did fish it many, many time on LR trips. The first time was in 1969 as a high school graduation present on the Red Rooster II. The LR fleet needs Cedros for their summer trips and I hope one day they are again allowed to fish the area. Until then everyone has another option.

With Cedros Outdoor Adventures you leave your car in a secured lot in San Ysidro and they drive you in a van to/from the Ensenada airport. My group is going with Cedros Sportfishing again this year fishing 2 to a panga.

No. It is nice, but not a hang out for nonfisherman, and Cedros is not a tourist type town.

Cedros Outdoor Adventures also has the option to fly directly out of Brown Field no shuttles or boarder crossing involved customs in Ensenada and at Brown Field upon return...super easy and super efficient.

I assume flying from Brown has an add-on fee? They're not using the Grand Caravan from there, right?

There’s a semi environmental movement in Mexico that’s been going on for awhile. They’re closing islands in the sea of Cortez too. Just looking at from a fishing/LR perspective for us but there’s a lot more involved. The chances of them opening anything back up is remote at best. Be happy the don’t close more shit.
Go while can can if you want to take a LR boat. Who knows what the future will bring for us. We’re certainly not making any new friends down there

No offense meant to their operations. They sound like my kind of adventure. It was more meant as a response to going on a long range trip is so much more hassle.
