Brother.....put them in the truck and go to the local fishing hole. Watch a little and give them to some kids fishing with little or no tackle. The looks on their faces.... when you gice them a "free" rod...and the feeling in your heart will make you wish you had more to give!
When I was 6....that's how I got started... A stranger saw me and my brother fishing with hand lines came over and gave both of us our first rods..... and an old box full of tackle. Never forgot it!
10 years ago.... before my dad passed, he and I did the exact same thing..... on the Oceanside pier. He was angry at first.... that I would do it without him....lol, eventually agreeing. (It was my secret plan to get him to come along with me in his wheelchair). It worked. Thank you God.
The day we went.... 6 different kids.....3 different families... All got the "gift".... from him....Some of his favorite fishing rods...reels. Each also got a tackle box full. They cried..... we cried. One of the best memories I have of my dad.... to this day. He told me on the way home. .. it (fishing) went "full circle". He said he felt overwhelmed with their child like joy!
In his last hours.... He reminded me of that "joyous" afternoon..... and that happiness we both felt. He asked I never forget it. I havent. Miss you pop.
Do it brother....If you can. Life's biggest rewards....don't cost much more than that. It'll do your heart some good. Just a thought.
