Game Plan.. Take the Future Son in Law out for his first time on the ocean to catch a Dorado.. His Bucket List fish...... Should be easy enough ..Head to Untouched Soil... Ya Right !!!... Been watching the crazy Temps and Currents moving around all week. Picked a nice TB with a Hot Spot below and outside the 226...W of the 230 ...away form all the Chaos ...I hope... Dropped "Non-Stop" in at SI at 430....Grabbed 2 scoops of really nice Dines and headed West. Conditions were perfect...
    IMG_1005.JPG
Headed out to the 30 line before hanging a Leftish to our little destination....Just not interested in any MX Navy Drama...They have been running the 30 line for the past week or so..... (More than 12 miles off the Coast...A whole other Topic).....Saw no life or much for Paddies at the 9 kept going to our area... 74 degrees and started climbing just SW of the 30 line at the MXB. 75 degrees...Got to our area and started looking....Started seeing kelps right on a TB 74.8 to 75.8 within a mile of my numbers... Thank U FD....Hit a few Kelps for Micro YT and Doritos...All under 3 lbs at best.. but fun on LT...Released

    IMG_1006.JPG

Bounced around the area for most of the day Metering a lot of nice marks.. Flying Fish all over the place... Had one come out the water right and clear the stern of my boat just missing Danny in the face... Wish I had a pic of that one... ..Warm Water ...Kelps...Not another boat insight... Stay Focused and it will pay off.. We finally found a Hot Spot...It was very small...Maybe 50 acres...Weird for sure... Then we found the Kelp...In that area ...right in the center of 76.8 around noon...Was the perfect scenario... My future Son in Law as never caught a fish in the ocean...Set him up with a Dine ...In the middle of the instructions he gets bit....

    IMG_1017.JPG

Well he got his BL fish on his first drop.... A nice DoDo...He also now knows why most all of my rods are 8 foot plus ...

    IMG_1020.JPG

Was a little slow at first ...with mostly Micro YT chasing everything in the water...

    IMG_1008.JPG

Then the DoDo showed up and wont touch the Dines or Chunk.... Crazy Cajun grabs his Popper Rig...

    IMG_1030.JPG

He gets Blown Up on when it hits the water...Another DoDo in the box...Okay...Its gonna be one of those days...Grab my Virgin Halco Popper and its immediately crushed by a Dorado...1st cast ...New Bait...Instant Hook Up...This is gonna be fun...and it was... for about 3 hours. After about 30 minutes of TW Chaos ..the small YFT show up and join in.....

Called in 4D's who was in the area for some of the entertainment...Nice guy...Slid right in the right way and joined in the fun...We threw Poppers for hours yesterday and had the Epic Top Water Day... Parker No Name stopped by toward the end to grab a few... Such a pleasure to fish a Paddy with guys who ..Get It...... All in all ... Ended up with limits of YFT for 3... 3 nice DoDo and dozens of Micro YT...Lost track of how many times our Poppers were abused by all species...At one point in the Chaos we had YT ..DoDo and YFT fighting over who got the Popper.. . Had a Hammerhead on us for an hour making things interesting for sure...HH borrowed Crazy Cajuns Go to Popper.. Almost got the HH to eat the Popper a couple times....

    HH3.JPG HH.JPG HH1.JPG HH2.JPG
    UW YFT Popper.JPG

All fish were small but SO much fun...Especially for a first timers first impression of why we do this...My daughters pissed because now all Danny can talk about is Popper Fishing... Go Figure...

Don't forget your Poppers...This is the 5th trip they have out fished bait for us....16 of our 18 fish were on Poppers.. Only 2 on Bait.

As allways it was a great time on the water. Every cast had a something blowing up the poppers. And to be there when your future son-in-law caught his first Do-do was awesome. That you again for letting me tag along.

I wish more California guys would try popping. Wait 'til you pop places like Panama where tuna over 100 lbs. along with big roosters, cubera snapper and many other gamefish will attack a popper.

Sounds like in some situations, we BETTER learn when/how to use em. We had already heard this year about success with cedar plugs, trolled on the surface, so this follows right along with it. As always, more "stuff" to add to the arsenal--a wonder we don't sink our boats buying all this stuff.
