I've had my best hunts in the early morning hours. From 1:00 am on was pretty good for me. Full moon, incoming tide.

Anytime you can get out. From what I have found there is no perfect scenario. Some days they crawl. Other days with the exact same conditions they won't crawl.

Word that. I have sat for hours for nada. And then I get like 3 in about 15 minutes. BTW I have a camera on my net so I know when they are crawling. There is no better time then dark... I have found.

Dive shallow during the day and pull them out of their holes. Or hoopnet early evening, stay warm, drink beer and thank DFG for limiting the divers to 7 bugs because its just too easy when you can see the bug just sitting in the sand in front of you.:cheers::cheers:

I personally find the best time to be between 9 am and 8 pm weekdays, and noon to 11 on weekends.

if you miss those hours you kinda have to break the glass doors to get to the lobster tanks....

7:30 to 9:30 i when I have my best luck but you never know theyll crawl when they want
full moons suck for hooping
when there is more current there seems to be a much better crawl
imo bigger lobsters seem to come out later

Full moon sucks for lobster diving!
Went out this weekend and dove catalina during the full moon to get about 8 lobster for 3 people. However, two of them were BIG. One went 5.4lbs and the other went 5.3lbs. The spot we hit up usually produces limits for us. So it must have been the full moon. There was simply too much light. I could see fish, reefs, kelp, without my divelight.

Best time is when they are not bearing eggs, then you can keep all of them. as far as the night diving, we tried it during mini season and unless you have really good diving conditions I wouldn't night dive for them. we spent most of our dive making sure we could get back to the anchor line due to the 5' vis therefore we couldn't concentrate 100% on the bug's which we had hoped to see them out and about which they were not in that spot. personally the sand is a very big place and if they are hiding in a ledge well then that narrows my search down alot.
