Just a quick report as just returned this morning early. Great charter with Matt H, Shaun B and myself joined chasing bluefin with Aliyar and crew. Limits of bluefin ranging from 25 lbs to the 1st place jackpot at 102 lbs(90 lb G &G) and my 2nd place fish at 95 lbs(84 lb G&G) both caught on small jigs in the daytime. Trip started slow as day one was only my larger model and when night fell the bite picked up slightly with decent pick over numerous stops for bluefin to about 95 lbs. Day 2 was a slow pick of 15-20 finicky bluefin from 40 to 55 lb models with the standout 104 lb'er. I hooked 3 and handed off all 3, one on the current sniper and 2 on flyline. They were right in line with all these daytime fish besides one day 2 standout. Night 2 was good fishing on 25 to 55 lb'ers throughout the night although yours truly can be a larger model snob at times (7th multi day trip since March 25) and went to sleep after handing off a 30 to 40 lb'er that apparently shook off at gaff....oh well, plenty more where that came from. Shaun and Matt filled their 6 fish limits when I awoke to them headed to go sleep as the sun came up....zombie fishing ! Day 3 was filling the last dozen or so to limit out for the boat. These (again finicky)fish were on small jigs (I got a 50 lb'er on a sniper) and light line (30 lb) sinker rigs so there were quite a few casualties on these sinker rig bites. Unfortunately with limits filled I would not get a night 3 opportunity to hook a big one. Oh well, I have a nice 2 week off stretch before my next 3 day on July 4 Calstar sponsored trip on the AA. There was one other fish around 100 lbs caught at night, but didn't hear the weight as the angler wasn't in jackpot.

    Here's the 95

I'm really looking forward to getting back on that boat !
Me too! I have done this trip most years for the past 15 or so. I'll be on with my son and a couple of friends. Love that boat! New engines and gensets should be a treat!

    Scott,

10 minute fight--135 gram Shimano jig on Talica 16 and Calstar 800H Mag with 80 solid braid to FG'ed 80 lb Daiwa J fluoro 20 ft section. Just as slide ended threw into 2nd scoop brailed....dropped 200 ft and right as I started winding came tight, initial run 350 yards then came straight to the boat in low gear, a few up and down circles with rod on the rail and gaff'ed....big difference on 80lb then the other guy that got jackpot as that was a long, but successful battle

nice job. 30lb for sinker rig sends shivers down my spine even if schoolies are the only ones being caught.
I didn't sinker rig as not essential to get bit like it was a couple of weeks ago on those large, mean models at the pens, but many hookups on swim throughs while drifting and probably 60/70% hook to land ratio as obviously chew offs and other tackle failures
