After several threads and posts talking about it, the 4th Annual Sluester Kill-n-Grill event finally arrived. If you didn’t put it on your calendar, you could have guessed it was finally here by the rumbling sounds of what seemed to be an earthquake, but it was actually Carl’s stomach rumbling.
    FEED ME!

Carl was beside himself waiting for the start of the party. Like a kid riding in the backseat of a car on a family trip, his posts throughout the day were equivalent to, “Are we there yet? Are we there yet?” Sluester kept us updated by posting with pics of his cooking progress which prompted others to brag about what they were cooking. The anticipation begins as the clock all too SLOWLY tick tocks. The posts to the thread come to a halt and you just know that everyone is adding their final spices to their marinade, icing down their coolers and on the road towards Lakeside.

When I arrived, about 3 pm, there were plenty of people already there. You couldn’t miss the house when you arrived as the place was marked with a “lookout tower” out front.

Off to the side of the front door sat a black and white cat, obviously displaced due to the many dogs who took over the house and yard. This cat was not so pleased. Entering the house, several kids were playing video games on the TV, and I entered the kitchen to place the cheesecake I’d made into the fridge. On to the backyard to find Mike (Sluester) grilling away. There were plenty of people in attendance and the dogs (6-7 of them) were having a field day chasing each other around the yard:

Straight towards the grill I went and found some of what Mike was grilling up!

Some of this food Mike made and the rest was brought by others. I am not sure of what is in each dish or what it’s called so if you see what you brought, holler and tell us what it is! More food was coming throughout the afternoon and even after I left so I didn’t capture everything but here are some of the highlights:

With so many choices, I did have what I thought was very tasty and my favorite of the day – Grilled Wahoo! OHHHH MYYYY It was AWESOME! Ali was the one who brought this and he can tell you what he used for marinade but it was so tender and grilled to perfection by Mike. Seriously gooooood stuff! Here's Sluester’s dish - Duck wrapped around a cream cheese-filled jalapeno and wrapped in bacon. A BIG hit! Behind that is the grilled Wahoo that Ali brought.

The food… oh my, the food! If you couldn’t find something to like here that was killed and then grilled, your name must be Meg or Ken…

Here’s the cioppino made by Orca (Don)

This was a Wild Duck Stew of some sort with Wild Duck, carrots, potatoes, asparagus, bacon, sesame oil, and enochi mushrooms!

I believe this is Venison Chili. Not sure who made this…

This is what was left of the smoked pig that Gomplin (Gary) smoked up…

    Some BBQ shredded beef…

As if the grilled food wasn’t enough, there were veggie and dip trays, cheese and crackers, various macaroni salad dishes, plenty of chips, beer, water, sodas, and The Hook (John) was blending up some frozen fruit drinks with coconut rum and fancy swirl sticks. Then it was time for dessert! I’m not sure who made the fish cookies but they were adorable and I’m sure took some time to decorate!

And to continue with the theme of the party, Antoinette made these “duck” cream puffs! They were VERY popular and I’m sure took some time to create!

Then I brought out the homemade cheesecake topped with freshly sliced strawberries. That went pretty quick!

Even the little kids were having a great time. This lil cutie was fascinated with the dog that kept coming up and checking him out. He ended up taking hold of the dog’s tail!

Close-up of Orca’s doggie “McKenzie” She wins as Queen of the Doggies in attendance”

And the King of the Doggies award might just go to... (Is this Mike's dog, Recon?)

Slater, Miss Chevous, Orca and McKenzie:

Smart dogs know who has the good stuff! Orca is spoiling these dogs with something grilled, not sure what it was:

And congratulations to this couple who recently found out they have a baby on the way…

And the food coma begins… Baby Slater is seen here as he crashes after eating a good portion of grilled fish and some rice, some macaroni, and he probably downed a bottle or two…

Yep, all I need is a blanket and I’m zzzZZzzzZZZZZzzzzzzzzz…

The 4th Annual Kill and Grill event was a huge success! I’m thinking this should be a bi-annual event! Thank you very much to both Mike and his wife Trish for opening their home to all of us and continuing to host such an awesome event!

BEWARE ALL!!! Those rumblings we heard earlier today from Carl, expect them to return after all the food consumed today… well, maybe in a different form…

The expression on Carls face in the first pic. Is on of major pain. At that point he had eaten all he could. And was trying to give that bowl away. Very sad.

Thanks for showing up ladies and gents. Food was awesome, company was even better!

Gotta give a special thanks to Genelie who help set up and brought his BBQ over and to Yale (Professor) who let me use a bunch of his chairs. He was at a wedding and couldn't make it.

Lots of salads left over but not much meat.....You guys must have a protein hangover. LOL

That being the fine lookin lad with the nametag that said "Kyle" "Carl's son":eek2:walkin towards me.
Scared the hell out of me! Any man would be proud to call him "son" but, I thought I was gonna get served papers hittin me up for about 12 yrs. of back child support.:eyepopping:I'm a little short right now...
Anyway, that worked out fine, as I soon met his dad "Carl".....Phewwwww... :food-smiley-014:
