Pickle juice and whiskey? I’d go with vodka, lots of vodka! Dirty martini time!
I hear you. I'm not a fan of whisky. They way it was relayed to me was it was horribly shitty whisky that was followed by a shot of pickle juice...

Sounds premeditated to me...LOL

You gotta rub 2 out every day, one with each hand. If not you will look like Popeye in one arm. Do it right.
I like it. I could put a little blond wig on my right hand and a little red wig on my left...

Nothing like getting a little strange every now and then...LOL

Never thought of that. Hell, I might be able to stand on my head in the corner while doing it...but I would need eye protection...LOL

    Sleep.

That's a biggie for me. I can go without it for awhile, but then I get really cranky puss.

I'll leave that topic for another post :-)
If you like sleep, Don't book a trip on the Polaris Supreme if they plan on fishing BFT at night. Rumor has it, The boat makes everyone fish at night until the boat gets limits for every passenger. That boat always seems to kick ass on those BFT even while other boats just scratch away.

For me calf, shoulder and arm stretches in the morning makes a big difference after multi day fishing. All day fishing and bait making at night then hit the bunk kinda gets the muscles stiff.

On the downhill leg of the run to 74 in May, I decided to do a little light work in anticipation of my next trip. Nothing serious, just some curls with a light dumbbell and a number of stretches with resistance bands. I used resistance bands rehabbing from shoulder surgeries and have added a few to the rotational ones. Going to grab a heavier dumbbell. Time to bump it up.

Peek of my fitness was early 40’s working in the laundry and linen distribution business. Bags and bundles all day kept me tuned up. I’m not kidding myself thinking I’ll get a whole lot more muscular. Just trying to tune up what I have.

Back in the day, when I was transitioning from "gunfighter/40MM Grenade launcher" the extra 9 canteen pouches full of 40MM grenades & ammo made for running/swimming around VN mangrove forests all day & night adequate arm strength tuna fishing strength when I came home to SDiego and my 2nd hobby - Tuna fishing. But as I aged and more & more assignments became advisory to ice cream "baskin robbins" loving Admirals I learned what "Workplacesafety and Bob311 discovered, middle aged guys get hard (all over) with rowing machines. The really hard part on all of those 18 deployments (over 30yrs) was America's big tobacco giants used to send us "free cigarettes" and we all know the satisfaction of a cold beer, a lucky strike cigarette and a beautiful Filippino chick sitting on your knee. Best solution came 39 yrs later when I quit drinking & smoking and married the Hot Filippina chick. So at 81 still married to the "LBFM", 5'8", 210lbs, and with some help from above hope to see "ya all" next 2023 when offshore warms up and we once again startanother season chasing that badass of all badasses: El Tuna. HooYah!

I've seen a guy who is a personal trainer for a living

Loves to fish so his technique is good

    Buff as &@%#

Tried to land a 204 on the kite setup without using the rail

FAILED. Gassed so hard even after giving in and using the rail halfway thru was still so spent after the fight he couldn't lift a coffee mug.

You can have your pride and "not get on your knees" or whatever but no amount of working out is ever going to get you to where you can land trophy tuna the "old fashioned way." You have to choose to just chase smaller ones or give it up and use the technique that actually puts them on the boat.

Working out is good for you though so keep it up

The rail is your friend! Run/bike/treadmill… endurance is more important than strength.
