Back to the top. I took a few days off, pulled all the top shots that were on my reels; re-filled them, set the drags (on my lever drags) will set the star drags once on the boat; made up a bunch of wahoo leaders; used a 20 turn Albright knot on my rigs up to 60#'s; 80# used a 15 turn; then a FG knot for my bigger rigs. I've got a couple of flatfalls rigged up with 300# mono leaders with 7/0 stingers....2 cowbells for wahoo trolling...16 and 32 oz.
Bart. I'm cutting back this year...not bringing as much shit as you call it. LOL...course you can never trust a Texan.

I’d rather take my chances trusting a Texan over a Jerseyan!

I love Wahoo! I’ll have both my Cowbells (32 & 16), a Halco Max 190, a DTX 200 and a 165. Should be something that those toothy critters will bite. I’ll have a lot of bombs, Raiders and 6x Jr with single hooks too plus wire bait leaders. Probably try some poppers & stickbaits on the Wahoo too, they aren’t just for tuna! I’ll have lots of surface iron, yoyo iron, Colt Snipers, Megabaits and flat falls and jigs. Ya know, too much is not enough!

Maybe one of these days I can invest more $ in artificials for yellow tail and wahoo. I have 6 bombs, 3 raiders, and some other iron. I only get to fish 1 time a year therefore I don't get the "luxury" of trying different artificials. I usually stick to bait. Maybe one of these days we will have another year when we plugged the boat with wahoo down at the rocks.
I love the rush when a fish grabs your bait and takes off...and it is really a rush for me. The reel starts spinning faster...I start putting pressure on the reel with my thumb...I can feel the resistance, then push the drag up. Fights on!!!!!!! Shit yeah.

Getting the bait in the water and seeing it swim away like a speeding bullet, just knowing you’re gonna get bit, is a great feeling, no doubt about it.

But, fishing Wahoo, I’m exhilarated fishing a jig or a bomb, reeling as fast as I can, and usually letting out some version of my war cry when it stops and the fish starts peeling drag. Oh, yeah, nothing like it.

Best feeling I've experienced on the water. Then Justin or Mike yelling at me to wind, wind, wind as I give them the deer in the headlights look as I am trying to turn the handle, but it is not moving.

Like fishing a yo yo for YT on steroids

Well guys and gals its getting closer and closer to our annual trip. Since the 80's going out in the GOM I carry a tackle tool box with me...and I still do. My tools may be the Harbor Freight grade of tools but they still work. Several times on a trip someone needs a torx driver, or a metric or SAE Allen wrench. A guy on one of our SD 10 day trips needed an Allen wrench. I had one that fixed his reel. I enjoy that. Being able to help someone out makes me happy. I ask nothing in return. Today I had to put some new handles on my old tool box. She is ready to go.
My rod belt is old. I used some Tac glue and Gorilla tape to repair it. It should make it another year.
Last year I was snake bit on catching fish...but I had all my buds on the trip which make it a wonderful time.
Looking forward to another year on the Big X.
Tex.

I’m going on this trip. I fished an 8 day Phenix sponsored trip in 2017 on the Excel. I had a great time! I’m looking forward to this trip!

I’ve been slowly building my arsenal. I have a Phenix 929H that will be paired with a Tranx500. Not sure what pound line I should put on it or if should just leave this setup at home.

Also, I’ve want to get a rod for wahoo. It would be paired with an Avet HX. I’m thinking the Axis 820xh (30-80line rating). Am I on the right track or would y’all recommend something else?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated and I’m looking forward to fishing with y’all!

Your Tranx 500(HG I hope) makes a great reel for throwing bombs. If you’re on a Phenix trip maybe they’ll have a loaner 809 XHJ you can use. I think those two are a perfect match. I have that set up times two- one for bombs, the other for poppers.

I'll have 2 TranX 500 HG's with me. One on the psw809xhj and the other on a psw909xhj. For poppers I use a spinner.

The time is coming up fast for our trip out in the Pacific. I pray we have flat sea's and lots of fish to catch. I have 3 more weekends off before the trip to get my stuff together counting this one. I slipped on a piece of bacon fat at work a week ago and tried to stick my right foot up my ass. That just irritated my sciatic nerve, by lower back, and jacked up left shoulder...but I'm still good to go. I have my snoopy reel with new line on it for the big ones. Looking forward to seeing my buds, (the rock I hope), and having another hell of a time. Tex.

Apogee, looks like we’re on the same trip. I’ll try and leave some spaces for your rods. LOL and I’ll do my best to not be “that guy”.

And for those going after, we’ll leave a few Hoo for you. They’ll have Apogee’s hooks in them!

Should be plenty of room for Ap’s rods since he gets 4 on the side of the house and 2 rocket launchers and he only has 4 or 5 rods... if he’s feeling greedy!
