I have a Shimano Saragosa SW8000 that I need a new rod for. Would you guys think the Phenix PSWS-760H is a good match for this reel? I'll use this set-up on a PB, mostly throwing poppers for dorado and tuna. My budget is $300ish. Fishermans Landing Tackle Days is coming up soon, so I'll probably make my purchase there. I'm open to suggestions as well.

The psw760h is probably a little heavy for the Saragossa 8k and for what you’re targeting. Also you’re sacrificing a lot of casting distance with that rod, it makes a great bait rod but I wouldn’t try casting artificials with it. I would suggest an 8’ rod in a mh, although you might do well with a psw 809h, which has a softer tip than the 760h, either way I don’t believe you will be happy with the setup. IMO.

Thanks for the reply David, much appreciated. I'm also considering the Diawa Proteus line of rods. If necessary, I can increase my budget a bit. Like I said, I'm open to suggestions as well.

I have a Shimano Teramar TMS-80XXH that I use for 40#. I've caught 30# YT and YFT on it using a Penn Battle 6000 (same size as a Saragosa 8k). It's in their Southeast spinning series. I think they have it for targeting Tarpon. Retails at $149.

The Phenix 809h spinner would be good. I've thrown iron, colt snipers and poppers with my casting version. For $300 you could look at the Black Hole s-801h too. I use one with my Saragosa 10k.

Thanks for the feedback Mark! Im finding a lot of positive info on the Black Hole rods. I looked on their website, but couldn't find that particular model.
