Ok so I have 3 rods with aluminum butts(size 4), the OD of the butt is bigger than the ID of the reel clamp. The reels are 40n and 60 fathoms. Looking for suggestions.
Make reel clamps wider?
Grind/groove aluminum butt?
Dont use clamp?
Just wondering if anyone else has ran into this problem?

I'm having the same issue, the butt on an old truline of mine is wider than the screw spacing of my 40n. Is there an aftermarket fix for this or do I just role reel seat only and hope for the best?

What is the max size rod/reel seat the large size will fit?

I have em on my jigstick and they work great. I have one on a 540 that fits great and thats about as thicc a butt as you'll see.

My issue is that the rod I want to pair the reel with already has a reel seat. @tunanorth any suggestions?

You just need to check the various "aftermarket" clamps to see what fits your rod best.
