The short answer is no if for no other reason it requires a special fitting be put in place to keep things from flying out of the shift mechanism, and after all is said and done there are parts in the right side assembly that have to go back together in the right order with pins that have to be reinstalled pointing the correct direction.

Most of the time the right side doesn't need to be serviced if it has been functioning correctly, so just pulling the left side plate off allows you to service the drag and bearings, which can be a little tricky especially with the drag cover removal and reinstall.

I would suggest to go to Alan Tani's site and research their tutorials. It is invaluable for the mechanically impaired.

For those old Internationals use a nice thick Marine Bearing Grease.

For lighter reels sometimes it can be too thick (ie spinners and small star drags). But for those old war horses any thick Marine Bearing Grease is the ticket. You want something sticky to bond well in the teeth of the gears.
