penn 500 gears

    Hey guys i was just wondering if anyone has made gears that are faster than a 5:1 ratio.

    The main gear that is supplied with the 5:1 Newell kit required removal of sideplate material. That may have been the reason you don't see faster gear sets offered. Besides, the comparatively weak cranking power would be further diminished.

    The standard Jigmaster 500/501 gear ratio is 4:1. 5:1 gears are markedly faster. These are spendy but stainless steel and available from third parties. Any faster than that and you end up with tiny gear teeth --teeth that will shred too easily. If you need 6:1 gears my recommedation is to move beyond a Jigmaster. The Penn Fathom and Squall as well as the Avet MX and JX reels all come standard with fast gears.

    I ask because i have a penn 506hs and i have a newell 332 and was wondering if anyone ever made something faster
