A few weeks ago I picked up a 1982 16’ La Paz built Panga. The bottom paint was shot and the outboard looked pretty rough. I went to work with some soap and water to clean off the dust that had accumulated on the boat after it sat in a field for the last 5 years. Once we got all the crud out of the boat and removed the outboard and center console I took it over to a friends shop where we used a couple fork lifts to flip the hull over.
After some pressure washing, a lot of sanding, and a bit of fairing I got the first 2 coats of interlux 2000e on.

The drain plug is shot, I’m unsure if I should remove more of the material that’s chipping away or try to salvage what is left by spreading thickened epoxy on it. A friend suggested gluing in a PVC tube, I’m leaning towards copper.

Sweet! You should take a larger diameter hole saw and cut a new hole to get to fresh material. Backfill with thickened epoxy then re drill to the size hole you want in the epoxy. You can add whatever kind of tube you want to the new hole. I usually glass over the epoxy back fill then drill.

Been making some progress, feels like it’s moving slower now but it’s time to hang the outboard and see out it floats. I keep telling myself not to spend time fishing and focus on the build but Ive been having fun with new recipes. Managed to slice my finger pretty good yesterday rushing to cut a plate to reinforce the transom, perhaps I’ll invest in some new gloves…
