Oh man! You’ll be telling tales of this trip for a long time to come. That’s quite an accomplishment. Wonder how big the tuna was that spooled you? The longer we Fish for these creatures the more likely these kinds of experiences will happen to each of us. Way to ‘get some’. 🎣

I am leaving little later this afternoon on the Polaris Supreme so I am taking my heaviest gear based on your recent experience.
I can only guess 200+...I'll never know.

Nice! Those fish are mean. I got freight trained Sunday. It chewed through before spooling me after 450 yds so at least I got my line back.

Look at the line marks on the fish. He flipped over and wanted to chew me off but luckily the line went under his jaw instead of in his mouth. He was hooked on the right corner of his jaw.

Great report, way to hang in there and make it happen! PQ is as legit as they come- especially Johnny! They must have been wide open for you guys...
It wasn't wide open, but good plunker style fishing. They bit well in the initial drift set up. Be ready to drop a bait as soon as the boat stops.

I've seen many fish with way more lines than that. Some this past weekend had the gill plate scraped off and massive scrapes around the pectoral fins too. As long as they end up on the deck it's all good!

The crew, we’re hard core! But worked their asses off!
You would think with few fish on board that it was an easy trip.It wasn’t for these guys.
My first time on this vessel and these guys have the experience and know how. They are one of the best as I had time to enjoy the show.

I leave tomorrow night for a 2 day. I have an HX Raptor with 100lb spectra, an HXW Raptor with 130lb spectra and a Shimano Talica 25 with 130lb spectra. After reading this post I think I am going to throw in my Avet EX Pro 30/2 that is filled with 135lb spectra and another Cousins 100-130 railrod. Nice report.

Congrats! I’m headed out Monday and curious as I have my Talica 25 with 500yards of fresh 100# power pro and another similar setup. Is it enough? Never thought I’d have to ask that question for a 1.5 day trip! TIA

A reel capable of 30lbs of drag,
Fine reporting. Great descriptions and play by play.
    Thanks for taking the time.
    Very well done. Carry on.
Hoping next time you get a duece.
If so, I just hope it's on 300# line.

That's a similar set up to what I caught my big fish. You should be good. Just have the deck hands check your drag and your connections. Go get some!

What an amazing trip and congrats on your PB! may I ask what type (circle or J) and size of the hooks used with 80 or 100lb sinker rigs?

    Thank you.
