Had my niece and nephew in-town and decided to take them and my son on an overnight to SCI. Decided to take the O95. Plans changed due to island closure. Destination was now offshore and scrambled to change up rod set ups for the kids. Left thur night at 2100 we headed SW toward the border and searched for paddies. We found some real nice paddies holding fish sw of the 302 area. We were fishing at Grey light and by 0700 we had 20 plus quality YT on the boat. Most all paddy fish with 1 on a cedar plug trolling (just so happened to be my nieces turn on the troll). My niece, nephew and son; and me put some quality YT over the rail. Most all YT well on live bait, with a few on surface and no love from YT on the yoyo. About 1300, west of the 302 we started seeing a few scattered BFT busting up the surface. Good meter marks were popping up also. Decided to drop the Tady blue and chrome 4/0. After about 5 or 6 drops on the yoyo, got a biter. 30 minutes later, color, 3 gaffs, and over the rail comes my personal best BFT. Final count for me and the 3 kids was 15 YT 18-21 lb and 1 BFT at about 135 lb. Caught in Avet LX 6/3 with 65 braid and 80 top shot on a Californian 880J-E (used to be 8ft but snapped it last year so it's now a 6 1/2 ft broom stick). Capt Rick and crew did a great job and the kids had a blast. I think the niece is my lucky charm!
