The Eskimos got to have some good recipes for these. Smoked, BBQ or Slow cooked or maybe Cute jerky. They probably taste like my yellowtail that they ate. :skullbone :Zombie_Ro

The Sea Lions will eventually decimate lobster and any other edible fish.

Left wing solution: spend $10,000,000 to cull 93 sea lions.

Right wing solution: sell 93 tags

If they would also approve the culling of Native American nets from the rivers, the fisheries would make a huge rebound.

The fish, the water, even the nets, have a spirit.
    Honor their spirits.

This image is a very important icon. A reason why Cali fishing is much better now then a decade/s ago. The groundfish are much larger now. Just look at the sheepheads and whitefish size now

    Interesting thread.

People always talk about the "tax-man" being sharks. 90% of the time I'm taxed, it's by a sea lion. The BB guns and sling-shots aren't a solution.

The legislative process regarding this in CA would be an absolute joke. I think we'd have a hard time with the data correlating fewer sea lions to more sustainable fish populations. I don't think our argument "but they're fucking up my good time fishing" is going to hold much water.
    .
In those rivers in Oregon and Washington, they have good data and a good idea of the number of sea lions at the river mouth and number of steelhead and salmon entering and exiting the river - strong correlation of the seal lions decimating the fish population. Do we have enough data correlating sea lions to unsustainable fish/ lobster counts in the open ocean? Unlikely. Opposition would argue other variables like over-fishing, water quality, or global warming (or whatever else they can come up with) skew the data - weak correlation of the sea lions impacting fish counts. Needless to say, you'd have Pam Anderson, and every other vegan, crying all over the news about these helpless, cute, furbags.

I'd buy a tag and make a really warm hat for the chilly mornings on the boat.

Imagine how many fish would be saved if you could buy sea lion as cat food!

And/or use the cat food grade fish resource for the farmed fish market.

I find it amazing that sea lions make it through the locks. Must be easy pickins in front of the hatchery.
